To get annoyed with people who moan about public toilets

There are a couple of beaches near us which have public toilets available. They are not beautiful - beige, tiled cubicles that smell slightly of bleach - but they are mopped out a couple of times a day, have loo roll and are clean enough. Whenever I use them, other women seem to spend a lot of time moaning about using them before they’ve even got into the cubicle.

I’ve seen disgusting public toilets and, really, these are not. Just a bit dated. And frankly I think it’s amazing that they are still there (it’s a really small place). If you need to use a loo, they will certainly do.

But why do you have to take any notice of them?

Everyone has different standards and expectations. You can control your own options and thoughts but not other people’s so just leave them to it.

I think there’s just a preconception that they’ll probably be gross because a lot of public toilets are. Mopped out daily, smelling of bleach and clean enough is a pretty unusual state for a lot of public toilets!

What an odd thing to get worked up about. Maybe they just have higher standards than you?
Who cares. They can complain that a toilet is gross if they want to.

Ever sat in a cubicle and listened to a string of whiny nincompoops moan about how utterly horrible it is that they have to use a public toilet? It’s fine to have high standards … but then you have to wait until you get home.

The parish council keep the toilets going because they don’t want people to shit in the sea.

A workmate of mine is so fussy she has her own toilet at home and won't share with anyone else,anywhere!

I agree YANBU, you are very lucky to have public toilets at your beach, especially ones that are relatively clean. I live near a few beaches that are beautiful but unserviced, so no official parking, toilets or bins. I hardly ever bring my kids to the beach because I cant go long without the toilet myself. Its sad really

In all my 50+ years I've never been in a seaside toilet that doesn't stink of piss, even if there is a faint smell of bleach involved.

Having said that, when you've got to go you've got to go, so no point in moaning.

This one honestly doesn’t smell of piss (although I’ve never been in the men’s). It is rather cold though

So how does she go on holiday, or won't she? She's never used a hotel bathroom? Even with her husband/family? She's never been to stay at family or friends houses?

What bothers me is when you go into toilets in public-rather than public toilets. Like at a restaurant or at a national trust and they are in a mess. Not flushed, paper or sanitary rubbish on the floor mess on the seat for examples. Who are these people leaving these loos in such a state? It’s a toilet, it isn’t difficult to get wrong? What are they doing in there???

drives me bonkers. Not only is it antisocial, I just don’t get it-it’s a toilet, how can you not use it?

We went for a hike recently and ended up at a remote spot that had a composting toilet available to the public. While I was waiting for DD to come out a woman queuing was making such an attention-seeking fuss about the smell, complete with fake gagging. It annoyed me so much I had to walk away and wait else where. Everyone knows that piss and shit smell bad! It was still better than going in a gorse bush, no need to be so childish and princessy.

Yes, that is the sort of thing I mean.
