Or the two girls? That's just quoting what the evidence has said, not implying that they weren't raped.

They have put the whole sentence in quotation marks, presumably because they are quoting. Imo that's not at all the same as putting the word 'rape' in quotation marks to imply that it shouldn't be believed or wasn't actually rape.

That's a quote. It's not a way to try and insinuate that a rape didn't happen.

You are wrong. The quotation marks show that the sentence is quoted, not that there is any implication that the rape didn't happen.
It's quite worrying that people get themselves all wound up and then try to do the same to others because they can't understand something so basic.

I think this is a grammatical issue op; there is nothing wrong with this headline, I don’t know how you misread and thought only rape was in quotations or didn’t understand what a quotation of a sentence meant?

The BBC, among others, also use this style of writing headlines. Between the legalities surrounding reporting on crime and appropriate use of punctuation you must hate reading the news!

Another post with faux wide eyed progressice rage from someone who is falling over themselves to make us believe they are too civilized to read the mail, yet quoting from the mail. Calling it ‘daily fail’ isn’t fooling anyone.

Why do the majority on mumsnet pretend they dont read the daily mail, yet they always seem to know its contents. I never know what is printed in the newspapers that i dont read
