Posting for traffic, pic attached

got a gorgeous Swan toaster that has developed yellowing on the white section. Tried cleaning with ‘the pink stuff’ and I’m taking the white off entirely. Any advice on getting rid of the yellow without taking the paint completely off?

Diluted bleach?

DNAshelicase · 16/04/2023 09:49

Just had a moment of realisation about the cause of yellowing, it’s UV light from the baby bottle steriliser if that makes any difference. I’ll move the steriliser today but hopefully this is salvageable

I have some plastic items that go yellow in the sun, and others that go yellow if they are not in the sun. I look underneath to see if the 'dark' side in yellower than the 'sunny' side or vice versa.

Have you had any luck removing yellow marks?

Google also suggests 5050 white vinegar and water.

It's a toaster. Does it really bug you that much?!

LostAtTheCrossRoad · 16/04/2023 10:29

Separately, if it's a chemical change within the plastic itself, nothing is going to shift it.

Sailawaytocromer · 16/04/2023 10:33

Tippex? 🤣🤣🤣

Sailawaytocromer · 16/04/2023 10:34

Sorry. Cleaning isn’t my forte. But I did make myself actually lol…!

oh yes, it is a £60 toaster and matches the kettle and bread bin 😭😭😭😭😭

£60 on a toaster? I'd want it dancing round the kitchen singing me songs while making my toast for that.

By the way I really doubt you can reverse discolouration like that; it's not dirt, it's a change in the chemical structure of the white stuff. IMHO.
Sorry OP I'm zero help.

DNAshelicase · 16/04/2023 11:05

Thanks ladies I think it is a chemical change. Hard lesson learned by the fool that bought a £60 white toaster

You're not a fool though, to want nice things and be taken in by capitalism, we all do it.
Matchy matchy is a bit of a trap though. Mismatched eccentric exists for sound economic reasons - you only ever have to replace one thing to maintain your aesthetic. Buy a lovely green toaster and branch out!
