To think I'd be perfectly happy being a stone and a bit overweight if I never had to see a photo of myself ever again?

I'm 5.7. I weigh just under 13 stone and am about to start dieting to lose a stone. I wear a size 14 and I'm 57 years old. When I look in the mirror I look OK, sometimes I think I look good. I think I look quite attractive!

But...when I see photos of myself I look TERRIBLE. Really matronly, wide, old with short legs and huge tummy. It's like a weird reverse body dysmorphia. It's got so bad that I now avoid having my photo taken at all costs. Last week my dd said 'God mum just let me take your photo otherwise when you die I'll have no photos of you" 😕

Anyone else? I need a crash course in how to look better in photos!

Agreed!

I was always slim but piled on the pounds after having kids. I’ve managed to lose most of it but cannot shift the last stone - no mystery to it, I just love my food and can’t muster up the necessary self discipline. Sometimes I think I look pretty good - even positively slim 🤣 I then see photos and am reminded of when you open your phone’s camera and it’s unexpectedly on selfie mode…

It’s Seriously depressing, but if I never had to be confronted with the candid camera reality I could probably fool myself into thinking I look decent and happily indulge my junk food habit without compunction …

Sadly there is another cruel reminder in the form of daily Teams meetings! Face looks ok, but if the camera is too low it frames the matronly chest/ shoulders and flabby arms and totally distracts me from the discussion … so even without photos there is no escape!!

Ugh. I feel your pain. I have zero willpower ATM as well, despite having a big family do in July.
