what am i doing wrong - help whisking egg yolks not whites by hand

have a recipe that requires "beating egg yolks until foamy and volume has increased"

I'm doing this by hand. I have no problem whisking egg whites by hand - it's about getting air in and I can do this easily with a whisk and a bowl.

Nothing is happening with these egg yolks, they are getting thicker not foamy

what am I doing wrong? tips and helps please?

I think the answer is that it just takes a long time because of the fat content in yolk.

I gave up and borrowed a neighbours electric whisk.

I tell you I'm NEVER whipping egg yolks again

I know you've found a solution already but yes you can whip egg yolks/whole eggs to make them light and foamy like egg whites but it takes a looooong time with a manual whisk!

I remember having to do this at college for a special type of cake - took 45 minutes and by the end I felt like my arm was going to fall off! Totally not worth it 😂😂

thanks @squashedalmondcroissant I'd never done it before so didn't realise how long it would take.

I completely agree it's pointless. I hadn't for a moment thought it would be so long.

I thought it would be like egg white whipping. Naive
