To think this must be a misprint? Nearly £7k for a week in the Lake District??

Yeah, it looks lovely. I can see it's been newly refurbished and it seems like a nice place to stay but I can't for the life of me work out why it's that expensive. It sleeps a whole 8 people. Am I missing something?

Skiddaw Heights

Skiddaw Heights - Modern townhouse with views over Keswick and Derwentwater. En-suite bathroom. Wi-Fi. Stunning views of the Lake District. Short walk to town centre. Private parking. Cockermouth 13 miles.

It’s less than £1000 per person if it was 8 adults staying there, so not too bad, but for a family (or 2) the adults are paying for the children so that bumps it up.
I find Sykes piss-takingly expensive though, as a rule.

SunnySomer · 09/04/2023 15:08

When I opened the link it said £3,600….

AllTheChaos · 09/04/2023 15:08

Flipping heck! I guess it’s less than £1,000 pp, but for that I’d still want guaranteed nice weather and somewhere astonishingly beautiful, not this!

DashboardConfessional · 09/04/2023 15:09

Coming up at £3800 for me.

Still a lot but then so are 4 hotel rooms in August for 8 people.

AlwaysGinPlease · 09/04/2023 15:09

It's coming up as £3618 when I open it

For week commencing 20th August it was this when I searched:

It's £6935 for me. For a house for a week. Funny.

I didn't book it.

To be fair, the Lake District is astonishingly beautiful in parts but the weather is by no means guaranteed. For £1000 pp I'd expect a lot more than just a nice house. I was expecting at least an exclusive swimming pool and sauna when I clicked on it.

True, the Lakes are wonderful but this house is not all that…

RosesAndHellebores · 09/04/2023 15:18

Overpriced at £3600 imo.

Saucery · 09/04/2023 15:18

I’m not a fan of Keswick so you’d have to pay me to stay there tbh Grin

UnsolicitedOpinions · 09/04/2023 15:19

I think it’s just going wrong, because 20th August is not a proper start date. Because the booking goes over two weeks I think it’s adding them up by mistake.
If you click on any of the actual circled start dates for a week it’s about £3600 or so.

Norfolkungood · 09/04/2023 15:19

It's because the change over day is the day with the red ring round it. As the previous person has booked extra the 7 days you want to book are across 2 separate weeks and make it double. If you went uo to the 2nd of September it would still probably be that shocking price but for almost 2 weeks

Slimjimtobe · 09/04/2023 15:20

That’s nut - even a grand for a week would be way too much

Norfolkungood · 09/04/2023 15:20

@UnsolicitedOpinions we thought the same!

Oh that makes sense. I put 19th as the start date though and the website changed it to 20th automatically.

Yes - if the day you pick is not available it won’t usually show you the price. The 19th is already booked.

PinkiOcelot · 09/04/2023 15:26

Could have a lovely holiday abroad for that. I would pay £3600 either.

PinkiOcelot · 09/04/2023 15:26

Wouldn’t pay!

DannyZukosSmile · 09/04/2023 15:27

Horrifically overpriced. Anyone who denies that is taking the piss. 'Oh it's only £1000 per person.' LMFAO! Like £1000 a person for a week in the Lake District is REASONABLE!

We booked 2 Travelodge rooms for 4 of us for this coming week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,) and paid £225 in total. 3 nights... 2 rooms... £225!

We will have 3 nights/4 days in the Lake District, for £225.

£7,000 for a week coz it's a cabin/house on its own is farcical!

Lordofmyflies · 09/04/2023 15:28

Doesn't surprise me OP. I'm in Cornwall and frequently see last minute 'weekend escapes' adverts pop up on my Facebook feed. I regularly see a week in a static van by the beach for £4-6,000. There was 2 nights over Easter available for a bargain at £1800 in a self catering chalet. People obviously pay it?!

LumpyandBumps · 09/04/2023 15:52

Maybe spend a night in Felixstowe instead? £2359! To be fair it does look nice, but you’d need a second mortgage for a week there - in April.

Help! Which property is best?

I found these great hotels on Booking.com and love them all. Help me decide which one to book!

If I was going to pay that much I would expect each bedroom to have an ensuite and to have a shower in the master ensuite.

SoShallINever · 09/04/2023 16:10

Haha! Is it your cottage OP?
Nice marketing as I'm sure some people on MN wint think that's badly priced at all.
We went to Cornwall last year, gorgeous cottage but almost £4k. This year we are off to Greece for the same price.

If you book 6 nights from 20th it's just over 3 grand. The extra night is tipping you over to two weeks as pp said.
