To ask for your recommendations of things to do with kids in Kettering?

Shamelessly posting in AIBU for traffic.

We're meeting the in laws for the day in Kettering tomorrow (it's half way between both our homes) and we have kids aged between 4 months - 8 years to entertain. Can anyone recommend things to do to keep them busy, and any nice kid friendly places to eat? It all needs to be walking distance from the train station ideally.

Thanks!

I believe from James Acaster that there’s a museum with a horrific mummified cat in it??

This sounds like something DD8 would absolutely love! Will look it up, thank you

Apparently the museum is temporarily closed - does anyone know if that's still the case? @DaisyDando we would normally head for the nearest park but DH informs me that it's going to rain all day tomorrow Sad

My first reaction was to say "leave quickly "...

Best of luck, OP. Seriously, its not a pleasant town.

It is a bit limited in the town centre, there is a Jurassic Grill for kid friendly food. If you can get to Wicksteed Park I would definitely recommend as it's the best thing there! It's about a mile or so from the train centre and the kids would love it. The play area is free and there's places to eat/picnic.

Oh lord! It was DH who picked the location and organised the train tickets etc, he probably should have done some research on the town first Grin

My dc loved wicksteed park and we traveled to visit most summers! It's got a lovely big park that's free and there are old fashioned rides that you can get tickets or a wristband for, I seem to remember it was reasonably priced! There's a steam train too but not much indoors if it's wet.

Needmorelego · 09/04/2023 12:39

Wickstead Park is brilliant. The world's oldest watershute ride. Massive play area. The crazy golf is great fun. Little train to ride. Lovely lake. My daughter still loves the massive sandpit and she is a teen.
Only negative is apparently they don't do their fish and chips anymore. Love their fish and chips.

I second Wicksteed Park we love it there.

motherofawhirlwind · 09/04/2023 12:42

Wickies is the answer! Hope the weather isn't too bad.... There are arcades and ice skating indoors, so hopefully you can hide from the showers

Thanks everyone! We're off to Wicksteed Park this morning (apparently there's soft play there if the rain continues!) and have lunch booked at Jurassic Grill. Really appreciate all the suggestions Smile

I was going to say “nothing”
and “don’t bother” but can see others had more helpful
recommendations. Still
not enough to drag me back there to check them out 🫣
