Feeling poorly with an ailment I've had all week. Im supposed to be office based today but I could WFH instead (admin type job) but I feel a bit shit with this illness. Currently laying in bed with a headache to add to the illness. I would probably feel better if I got up but right now the thought of staying in bed and sleeping for the morning seems much more appealing than having to make the effort to get up and either plough through the pain and go into work or sit working all day in pain at home
Wwyd ?

It sounds like you need a rest. If you can afford it (nothing else to rearrange and not on a sickness warning) then I'd take at least the morning off sick.
Being an adult is hard work sometimes. Sometimes I long for the days when I was a child and Mum would say "you're not well, stay in bed" and the decision would be made for me.
Hope you feel better soon.

Phone in sick?

midgemadgemodge · 05/04/2023 07:39

Get up
Get a cup of tea
Phone on sick
Take the tea to bed

Take some ibuprofen or paracetamol? No more headache!!

imanewuser · 05/04/2023 07:43

I think I will phone in sick. I'm rarely off sick. I'm due an operation on Monday which will stop me being in pain. I guess I feel bad to call in sick but my boss knows about my pain/operation

Everyone needs a wee day like this every now and again.

Guilt free. Get yourself back to bed.

Hope you feel better soon.

I don't think you need to feel guilty if you are genuinely too ill to work.

YA only BU if you know that a shower, a cup of tea and some paracetamol would sort you out.

They don’t work for everyone. Paracetamol, for headaches, is quite low. Can’t remember the numbers but it is surprising. I know for me taking paracetamol does absolutely nothing - great for reducing a fever though.

Ibuprofen has higher numbers but there is still a significant percentage that it doesn’t work for.

Just on numbers alone there will be some that neither paracetamol or ibuprofen will work. So for some people it really isn’t as simple as saying just pop a could of painkillers.

OP your body is saying you need to rest, you could probably push through, but at what longer term cost?

I would probably feel better if I got up

I’d get up and see how I got on, because of this - but also because if you’re having an operation on Monday, you might want to keep your leeway for around then. But it might come down to personality type, too!

And there’s no shame in taking today if you need to. It’s your body and your call, only you know if you need to. If you do, do it guilt free.
