To eat jelly cubes?

Lighthearted obvs.

My DH made a trifle (it was delicious).

There was a leftover packet of jelly, which I ate in raw cube form over the next few days.

DH thinks I’m a heathen.

AIBU to eat raw jelly?

Always sneaked one or two cubes when I was a child.
Found out the hard way that jelly doesn’t set if you eat too many. Doh!

Yes. It took me an embarrassingly long time to cotton on to why the jelly wasn't setting. 😂😂

UsingChangeofName · 03/04/2023 18:11

We used to take them as 'emergency rations' when hill walking.

Well, used to have to take 2 lots - one to eat, and one to save incase there ever were a real emergency Grin

Rollerpiggy · 03/04/2023 18:12

Love raw jelly! Getting a cube was always my treat if I helped make the Christmas trifle!! 🥰

WeeOrcadian · 03/04/2023 18:13

LTB

he's the heathen

AliTheMinx · 03/04/2023 18:13

Oooh yes! Always sneaked a few cubes when my mum was making jelly... delicious!

My my. Used to give us raw jelly cubes to strengthen our nails. So it's actually medicinal Smile

I read somewhere that it being good for your nails is a myth but hell, who cares?
🤣🤣

TheInterceptor · 03/04/2023 18:16

A poor child choked to death on a jelly cube at a nursery.

WashAsDelicates · 03/04/2023 18:17

No different to eating jellybabies.

I've used jelly babies to make jelly in the past. You just have to clean the starch powder off first.

PrinceAperol · 03/04/2023 18:19

I used to get told off for this and my mum reacted like it was disgusting.

It's no different at all from eating a jelly sweet!

mac1974 · 03/04/2023 18:21

Love your husbands response 🤣🤣

Runwayw · 03/04/2023 18:24

My nail lady tells me to eat one a day as it’ll make my nails stronger!

Bloomingcancer · 03/04/2023 18:30

I remember jelly cubes supposedly being good for your nails.

when she was newly married a friend made a jelly, but it didn’t set, she said oh well never mind I’ve got lots of cubes left to have another go, she didn’t realise you use the whole packet, lol

CatOnTheChair · 03/04/2023 18:52

The only bit that is slightly unreasonable is the length of time it took you to eat the packet.
"Square jelly" is far superior to diluted stuff.

Who asked about Jello? I think that is a powder. In the UK you can get a product that creates a similar end point, but it comes in a block - similar sized box to jello - that you can rip into 12 cubes.

Honeybunchcrunch · 03/04/2023 18:54

Apologies if this has been mentioned. I have soft brittle nails. When I was getting married I read that eating a jelly cube a day would do wonders for my nails. I did and it did. I got married with fabulous nails!

mathanxiety · 03/04/2023 19:20

YANBU, they're delicious and chewy.

Jell-O is gelatin crystals that comes in package. You mix into boiling water and then put in the refrigerator. It forms a jelly substance. It comes in different flavors and some put fruit, nuts or marshmallows in it.

I had a box of cherry so made some today because of this thread! I never make it but it’s probably just what I need for my nails.

A little girl I used to go to school with in reception class had a packet of 'raw' jelly cubes in her lunchbox.

They're actually a pretty big choking hazard so I really wouldn't recommend this (ie giving it to a young child).

if you have citric acid and mix it 50/50 with sugar and roll the jelly cubes in it it's DIY haribo (was desperate one day!)

I’ve always loved jelly sweets but the cubes of jelly are just way way better.

I remember there being jelly cube sales at School at lunchtime to raise money for charity

NameChangingIsMySuperPower · 03/04/2023 21:35

I always wanted to eat a jelly cube when I was making jelly with my mum, but she said it wasn't allowed as it was a choking hazard!

I'd forgotten all about it, but I might have to buy some jelly cubes next time I go shopping! 🤣

All that gelatine is definitely good for your nails, especially if you have flaky nails or are recovering from chemo. 😊

I used to eat cubes of lemon jelly regularly.

Lemon jelly???? 😮

I was raised on a cube a day for hair and nails. Only mum and I had it as the men/boyfolk thought it was too girly to care about nails. Haha, jokes on them, it was delicious! 😍

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 03/04/2023 21:48

I prefer cubes to actual jelly. When we had to do orienteering at school we'd take them with us as emergency rations. Was entirely the best part of the whole endeavour.

Missey85 · 06/08/2023 12:53

No jelly cubes in Australia but I eat the powder jelly raw 😊
