AIBU to think I'm having side effects from the pill after just 5 days?

I started on Gederal 5 days ago to help treat PMS (anxiety, low mood, irritability, bad skin, night sweats). I've been given 2 months worth and told I need to take for a couple of months to see if they help. I started them on the first day of my period which lasted 4 days. I've been very tearful, irritable, tired and anxious the past couple of days when usually this is the better half of the month for me.

Could this be the pill or is it too early to tell? How soon did you notice side effects when you started taking the pill.

Last time I was on it was about 8 years ago, a different one that definitely didn't agree with me and made me feel depressed. I now have 3 kids and don't want to be a hormonal mess for at least a week each month hence why I've gone to the GP about it. She has said that we can try other pills if this one is no good but I don't want to feel like this for two months!

Tia for sharing an experiences x

Could be yes

Anyone else got any experience of this? Thinking of going to the Dr today as I'm feeling so angry about nothing!

Very likely. One pill I used had me chucking up within 48 hours

Could be - in fact from my experience I'd say early on is the most likely time to experience side effects, as your body adjusts to the new hormones. The only time I've had side effects from the pill (been on it 15+ years) was when I was switching between brand - very tearful and agry for the first week or so. Then settled down and no side effects since.

I notice a difference in myself pretty much as I start taking the pill. Turns me into a spotty, sad, bald (hair falls out), permanently starving, anxious dragon lady who thinks about sex only when there is a full moon.
It never settled for me on combined pill, mini pill, implant, injection - all horrific so ended up with a copper coil. I think hormonal contraceptives just don't suit some people

It's a fairly big whack of hormones suddenly entering your bloodstream at the end of the day. In my experience the potential side effects aren't discussed much when they're being prescribed, which is surprising

Thanks for sharing your experiences I can definitely relate to a lot of the symptoms you are both describing. Unfortunately my Dr is on annual leave for a few weeks so I'm going to have to decide whether to chuck it in the bin or keep going with it and hope it will settle! I feel less 'crazy' knowing that others have experienced symptoms early on as well. Feel sorry for my husband and kids having to put yo with me like this ☹️
