To ask for your lunch in Manchester recommendations

Hi, special treat for myself and mum on Thursday. Heading into Manchester for lunch, Mum has got a few weeks off until her next round of chemo starts, it’s my birthday and a belated Mother’s Day treat.

Each time I read a review of somewhere we’d like I get nervous and get put off. It’s such a rare treat I don’t want to get it wrong.

Nothing crazy expensive maybe up to £60 for both of us, we don’t drink. Great service and we don’t eat shellfish, mum isn’t great with super spicy food.

So any recommendations appreciated.

You sound like a lovely daughter. I hope your mum is feeling okay and manages her next round of chemo.

I really recommend SUD pasta kitchen in the northern quarter. Really delicious pasta but a small menu.

For a less formal lunch, Gooey bakery is amazing- could also pop there for a post lunch doughnut!

Tampopo does great noodles.

Mackie Mayor is a more upscale food market with quite a lot of choice, so you can peruse the options and pick what you like.

TNQ is a lovely bistro style restaurant, I've not been since lockdown but it was an amazing Sunday roast haunt.

If you get panicked looking at options, narrow down some places that are ticking your boxes and post them here to see if people can recommend.

I hope you both have a really lovely time!

The Ivy in Spinningfields has amazing surroundings and buzz.

The original San Carlo opposite Kendals always has a great atmosphere

Mummikub · 28/03/2023 15:05

Hawksmoor has an express menu that's excellent value.

Coldilox · 28/03/2023 15:06

Kala on King Street is lovely.

BarrelOfOtters · 28/03/2023 15:08

I always liked Dimitris.

The Ivy is a good choice.

Courgeon · 28/03/2023 15:08

Evuna in the northern quarter or on deansgate has amazing tapas and a great lunch deal. I'm sure they'd be ok with you replacing the glass of wine in the lunch deal with a soft drink.

Hope your mum is ok.

shakeitoffsis · 28/03/2023 15:09

The ivy spinningfields is nice and in a beautiful setting.

Rudys for neopolitan pizza. Will be reasoably priced too.

As said, Sud Pasta is also very good.

Browns has a really well priced lunch menu. It's such a beautiful building and was fairly recently refurbished. I have found the service good too.

NameChangingIsMySuperPower · 28/03/2023 15:28

Peter Street Kitchen is lovely. Not sure on prices though. I had the tasting menu which was pricy but they do have other options.

Sangam (Indian restaurant) is good too.

I also like Bill's which is probably quite budget friendly.

Feeling100 · 28/03/2023 15:46

This all great, thank you for your suggestions. Hadn’t thought of the fancier places having cheaper lunch menus.

Another one for the Ivy!

Feeling100 · 28/03/2023 15:56

Ooooh The Ivy has a 3 course set menu at lunch for £22! And Browns is similar, I’m so glad I asked.

Just hunting through the other suggestions now 😋

@Upsidebrown thank you, mum has been amazing, this will be her last treatment hopefully, 3rd round of chemo taking her to November she’s also had radiotherapy and surgery. So just want to have a special day for her.

Again the Ivy is a great location, pretty and the set lunch menu is great value.

Frolie · 28/03/2023 16:10

Your mum will love The Ivy. Make sure you visit the fabulous toilets! Also, book yoir table in advance.
Hope you have a special day.

Feeling100 · 28/03/2023 16:22

@Frolie mum has the weakest bladder in the world, I’m sure she’d the toilets 🤣

Six by Nico does a fancy 6 course tasting menu for £37 a head without wine. I haven't been cos I can never get in, but everyone I know who has absolutely raves about it.

Feeling100 · 28/03/2023 16:34

So you can book the Ivy brasserie or the roof terrace. Would it be cold on the terrace?

OP posts:
YaWeeFurryBastard · 28/03/2023 16:37

Book the brasserie, the terrace can be cold

Feeling100 · 28/03/2023 16:50

@YaWeeFurryBastard thank you 😀

Roof terrace is gorgeous! It’s warm and totally enclosed 😁 🌸

Feeling100 · 28/03/2023 17:46

For a really special lunch, definitely Wood. They have some great deals on at the moment as well.
