The dilemma being I need a screening tree in front of my kitchen window, as the window looks out across my front drive (which is narrow) onto the road.

Essentially, I'm looking to plant an ideally semi-mature small tree with a compact/wide canopy that is evergreen so that the canopy blocks the view into our kitchen at mid-window level, if that makes sense? I don't want a hedge.

It needs also to be a tree that does not spread their roots too much as it will be within a few metres of our house and it needs to be able to be planted on a slope.

Or does anyone else have any ideas of plant/tree screening (not leylandii!)??
