to report neighbour's fence or is is pointless?

Don't usually post on here but this is driving me insane. My house has a passage round the side and back that I use quite a lot and my son runs round with his bike (we keep bikes round the back). The neighbour's fence has been falling into it for as long as I've lived here (3 months) and it is very annoying. Wasn't worth reporting as it wasn't dangerous. It has now fallen down completely and they've propped it up with a bit of wood. I had my son in my arms and was walking round the back of the house and stepped over it. Didn't realise it had rusty Nails sticking out of it and I now have a big gash in my leg that won't stop bleeding and a huge hole in my very expensive trousers which will need to go in the bin. I've been round 3 times to knock on their door and ask them to sort it but there is never anyone there. I have a feeling it might be empty and the landlord is just not bothering to fix. I can't take the bit of wood away that is propping it up as the whole fence just collapses (I've tried, it's a massive fence and I can't manoeuvre it myself back into their garden). There is absolutely no information about this on my local council's website. Is it even worth reporting?

It's surely worth trying to get some action via health & safety. Nothing will happen if you don't at least try

Is it a council house? If so I guess maybe you could report it and they might do something. But if it’s private or private rented who is going to go and make
someoen fix it? Can you speak to your neighbour about it? X

What does it have to do with the council?

Anotherturnipforthebooks · 26/03/2023 20:01

Do you own your house or are you renting? If you're renting, it could worth reporting to your own landlord and see if they might be able to move the fence off their land.

I have no idea who owns it. Might be council owned. I always thought the council was the first port of call for dangerous fences but I've never had an issue like this before hence why I'm asking. I've already tried to speak to my neighbour as stated in my OP.

How do you know the neighbour owns and is responsible for the fence?

I'm renting and that's a good idea. My landlord is brilliant so he'd no doubt want to help.

It's within the boundary of their garden (I can see this v clearly from the floor plans and garden plans of my house which I found on Rightmove)

@ScribblyHome

Your landlord may know who owns the property next door so definitely worth contacting them.

At the very least, they might help you push the thing back into the other garden.

It's not next door, they're on the parallel Road (sorry, used neighbour as a general term for people who live very close by)

I presume so! But not 100% sure. Would have thought I'd have had a letter from the GP if I wasn't.
