Lately I've been making a point of listening to Ska bands of the early 80s - so done a bit of Bad Manners - the band that I've listened to all their top 40 hits already is The Beat.
I think what prompted this was the passing recently of the much loved Terry Hall. I hadn't realised until last December that the guy who did 'Ghost Town' was the same guy who fronted the band who sang one of my fav 80s songs - 'Tunnel of Love.' His 'look' in The Specials was so different from the way he looked in Fun Boy Three - the Ska/Mod type look is so different from New Wave/New Romantic look. Anyway, the important thing is the more I learn of Terry's music the more I love it - loved his output in The Colourfield also.
So - so far - Bad Manners, The Beat - listened also to quite a bit of Specials stuff - think I'll go in for a bit more Madness as well.
Anyway ... the early 80s Ska period was just great, wasn't it? On that note, Top Deck and Crisps, anyone??
