Want neighbours to clean up their dog shit.

Shared garden, very small between 4 houses, 2 houses don’t even use it.

There is a small divider row of pots in place, no official split as no specific shares but it’s been that way since I moved in so I don’t mind.

But the neighbours dog uses the garden as a toilet and sometimes the shit is cleaned straight away but majority it’s around for anything for half a day to a few days and I’m sick of looking at it. Even the piss as it’s a slabbed garden just sits there.

It’s disgusting and certainly can’t be used as a space to relax in.

I have tried to speak to his Landlords and basically they have said as the shit isn’t in the way I’d walk it’s not an issue. My issue is it is a shared space that regularly has shit just in it and a few foot away from my windows and if I wanted to can’t sit out there as it’s rotten.

Sorry bit of a rant but pissed off looking out my window at the moment to a pile of dog shit!

Definitely NBU, I don't have any advice but I sympathise , I've got numerous cats shitting in my front and back garden, I cant enjoy it, and god know what I'll do when my baby is old enough to play outside, I need it completely paving tbh, they've even shit in large plant pots that I had sown seeds in

Laiste · 21/03/2023 15:05

Have you asked them, the dog owners, if they'd pick up the poo promptly?

Laiste · 21/03/2023 15:07

I mean, you can start off nicely ...

123becauseicouldntthinkofone · 21/03/2023 15:07

i would have a word with them, as a dog owner my dog goes out and when comes in I check outside and clean up but i suppose they dont view it as an area to sit in like we do just their dogs toilet. They need to be clearing at least once a day, nothing should be there longer than that even if busy (ie i work and teenager lets out and doesnt clear up so i clean when i get back). Good luck OP and definitely try to resolve before summer kicks in or it will be grim!

BMW6 · 21/03/2023 15:12

Ask the owner to clear the shit promptly every day as you'd like to sit in your bit but the shit stinks?

Naddd · 21/03/2023 15:13

We have the same issue. Shared yard. At least it's cleanrd up wen asked but i shouldn't actually have to ask.

We got into an argument over it didn't really make any difference just gone back to asking.

The neighbour before was worse believe it or not had a bit fenced off thst shed let 3 dogs shit in, when asked to clean it would scoop it into a bucket that was left outside.

Flipping vile. Before the fence she'd let them shit everywhere.

If u manage to sort it do say how

Laiste · 21/03/2023 15:14

Also - get a little cheap table and chair set out there to show you intend to sit out there even if it wont be for a few weeks yet.

I'd be more embarrassed to leave my dog's shit near an obvious seating area that someone's set up.

Yes, I’ve asked several times and asked Landlord, I’ve explained it’s such a small space that it doesn’t matter what window I look out it’s just a few foot away but it seems like they think I’m the problem.

Bloody hell that's completely disgusting.

Sorry don't have any advice but all my sympathy.

You see I’d be mortified to leave shit in a garden you know other people have to use. We need to manoeuvre the bins round the shit.

I will maybe try the idea of a table and few chairs or a bench to see how it goes down.

It really is disgusting, I’m glad I’ve no children old enough now to be wanting to play out the back as it just wouldn’t be possible.

Did you try anything official? Or just speak with the neighbour.

Get a jet wash.

Jet wash all the piss and shit to their side of the garden, ideally under a window of theirs.

Not really a useful solution - unfortunately for this to be pleasant for you, they need to supervise their dog and pick up every shit and sluice down with water ideally with something like Odorkill in it (though you may not like that its pretty strong stuff usually cherry or bubblegum scented) over every single piss, pretty much immediately after the dog produces it.

I have three dogs, my yard is poo picked daily and in summer jet washed weekly (not in winter, fuck that) - its still not a yard you can sit out in.

I just would not share a yard with a dog owner, nor would I have dogs with a shared yard like this, theres no way both parties are ever going to be happy.

TidyDancer · 21/03/2023 16:32

What did they say when you asked them about this?

Poo should be cleared up same day at least imo, or immediately if you notice it when it happens. I'm always surprised when people don't do this because it can't be nice even when it's your own dog and your own garden.

To begin with, obliged and cleaned up. As time has gone on back to square one. Last time I asked was told to “F Off”
Landlord no longer replies to any emails.

Tried that too, I’m made to feel like I’m making issues out of nothing, I don’t think I am?

She sent one letter ages ago and it was ignored, I did go back but EH person said there’s not much they can do.

I actually told him id report him as it was against the law but i haven't done so.

The previous neighbour i reported several times to environmental health and very little was done. Ive actually got a letter where they said it was only a small amount!!!

The problem was i seemed to be the only one complaining! It was vile.

Are any of your other neighbours complaining?

carriedout · 22/03/2023 05:42

Could you get a beach spade and clear it to very close to their back door/property?

Do you rent or own? tbh I'd think about moving.

Seymour5 · 22/03/2023 06:32

Have you considered a repellent? You can buy products that might stop the dog pooing and weeing near your part of the yard! You could treat most of the area, just leaving a bit near the dog owner’s door.

Sadly, it comes down to different standards. Yours being fairly normal, and theirs being pretty low.

Fluffodils · 22/03/2023 06:39

Seems reasonable

finalwhistle · 22/03/2023 06:53

Can you partition part of it off for yourself, or wouldn't that work? You can get freestanding trellis/planters like this www.vidaxl.co.uk/e/vidaxl-garden-planter-with-trellis-dark-grey-120x40x121.5-cm-pp/8720286876008.html
They have even cheaper types on Amazon.

I realise you shouldn't be having to spend money to improve the situation but your neighbours are clearly selfish twats an it sounds like you've tried everything else.
