Can the NHS really leave me to wait so long?

I had CIN 3 cells removed 6.5 months ago , you are supposed to go for follow up smear after 6 months per NICE guidelines to check test of cure. I've been referred back from gynae to gp. GP surgery said there's no appointments until the end of May. I'm now going to be worrying about this now I went from clear smear to severe CIN 3 in 3 years. Should I just try to pay for a private smear/ colposcopy now or am I being over dramatic/anxious ?

If going private would make you feel better and help your anxiety then go for it.
