To go back to the GP about my IBS (warning: TMI, sorry)

I went to the GP in June and December last year after having blood in my stool. The blood only lasted for a few days, but obviously is a red flag symptom that warrants investigation. I had a colonoscopy last month with suspected IBD but everything looked normal and all biopsies came back normal too.

However, I keep having these episodes in the evening where I get stomach cramps all of a sudden and I end up having multiple bowel movements that are loose. TMI but they smell different to my normal BMs too. This used to happen around once a month but it's getting more frequent and now it's around twice a week.

Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone who has had a normal colonoscopy? I'm not sure whether to go to my GP as my colonoscopy and all blood tests are normal so I presume that they will just say it's IBS and there's nothing that they can do?

Following with interest as I had a clear colonoscopy about 4 years ago following irregular bowel movements and bleeding from my bottom. But I still get the same sort of flare ups you describe and the bleeding never really stopped. I do have the joy of piles so presuming they are the main cause of that.

If a colonoscopy hasn't revealed anything then I'm not sure where you'd go next. Have you considered food allergies or intolerances? Or maybe hormonal factors?

I’m in a similar boat to you. No pain but bloated tummy and irregular movements and never feel empty iykwim

also blood tests and stool sample tests all ok, heart and blood pressure fine, she (doctor) can’t feel anything when touching my tummy.
I’ve cut out oats and that made the bloating better but still irregular (can east be 2-3 days and then every day for a few days. Soft and foul smelling.

im worries but not sure what to demand. Waiting for an endoscopy because it feels weird at the top of my stomach.

also had chest X-ray which I guess is ok as I didn’t hear back

I don't think it would do any harm to go back and discuss these changes with your GP, if nothing else, hopefully they will be able to put your mind at ease.

Have you tried tracking when these episodes happen?

I only ask because since trying to have a baby and tracking my cycle, there is a very clear link between the types of bowel movements and the cycle day/s I am on.

I have had Crohn's disease for over 10years and looking back the pattern still makes sense when not in an active flare so wonder if it's similar for IBS too

... or you could be a male poster and that definitely won't be a possibility 🙈

I've tracked when they happen and there's no pattern with my menstrual cycle or what I eat.
