People who identify as Trans Abled …

We have all head about transgender, but recently I’ve heard more and more about transableism. These are healthy people who think they were born in the wrong body and that they should have been born into a disabled persons body.

Surely this is the line. People cannot identify as disabled. People cannot pretend to be disabled. This is the point we must say that this is now mental illness. You cannot just go around identifying as whatever you want.

AIBU to say this is ridiculous and must be stamped out and the fact it even has a name is insanity.

Stop the world. I'm getting off.

purpliee · 19/03/2023 19:57

This is the most unreasonable thing I've ever had the misfortune to witness.

catsonahottinroof · 19/03/2023 19:57

I've never heard of this before but I agree, it is mental illness. Maybe it's similar to those people who think they should have a limb missing and sometimes get doctors to agree to amputate.

Christ on a bike.

I second this. As a mother of a daughter with disabilities (and I don't actually like to even use that word as I feel it is a social construct and she is differently abled, but I get not everybody feels this way) I am horrified and offended on my child's behalf that she has to live on the same planet as anyone who would do this. Its absolutely fucking disgusting.

That’s exactly what trans ableism is. People who get arms chopped off to be amputees because that’s how they feel. There’s a woman who poured chemicals into her eye because she identified as blind. It can’t be right surely?

What the actual fuck

MyBloodyBrother · 19/03/2023 19:59

It’s as ridiculous as people claiming to be transgendersL. If people can claim to be the opposite sex there’s no reason why they shouldn’t also be allowed to claim to be trans age, trans race, trans able etc.

Desertbarncat · 19/03/2023 20:00

I’ve never heard of this, do you have examples of how it is becoming an issue?

sst1234 · 19/03/2023 20:00

It is no more ridiculous than a man saying he is a woman or vice versa. It’s simply that somehow there is a debate about transgenderism when there really should be no debate. A man cannot be a woman, and a woman cannot be a man. Period.

No doubt, this this trans ableism nonsense will become a debate when there is nothing to debate. I guess the lowest common denominator in intelligence is now so low in Western society that it takes this kind of nonsense for people to feel special. Giving themselves a label.

Indeed. It's all claiming they're something they are not, demanding we all go along with it and demanding special treatment as well.

I agree mostly but I do think, very rarely, people genuinely feel as though they were born the wrong sex. That doesn't mean they should be told it's possible to change it.

It is. A child at my daughters school is claiming this at the moment. Saying she feels that she should only have one arm etc. that’s how I found out about all this!

Dacadactyl · 19/03/2023 20:03

I'm trans-rich. Means I identify as a millionaire and I demand the government make this happen!

maddening · 19/03/2023 20:04

There are people identifying into mental illness as well - such as the many DID Tik toks

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 19/03/2023 20:04

I first heard of 'trans-ableism' when JK Rowling (writing as Robert Galbraith) wrote about it in 'Career of Evil'. It is a thing and YANBU, it is appalling.

ditalini · 19/03/2023 20:05

Some people identify as dead en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotard%27s_syndrome?wprov=sfla1 (we don't bury them or pretend we can't see them).

The human brain is a wonderful and terrible thing.

CharlieTown · 19/03/2023 20:05

Does noone else feel compassion for these poor troubled people? Imagine pouring bleach into your own eyes!

wheresmymojo · 19/03/2023 20:05

Meet the people trapped in their working bodies?

I mean who the fuck takes that away from this?

Lovelynondriver · 19/03/2023 20:05
