Equasym for ADHD. Usual reaction or too high a dose?

Our DC (aged 10) has been on Equasym XL for a month, 10mg. We saw a mild change in that there was less getting up and bouncing around when doing homework or at mealtimes, but concentration levels were the same as before.

The dose was increased to 20mg. They have taken 20mg for the first time today and behaviour has gone the other way completely. Excitable, impulsive, a bundle of energy. The opposite of calm and focussed. Is this usual for first few days or a clear indicator it's too much?

I don’t know but my 15yo takes equasym 40mg and no side effects. Maybe ask the prescriber for advice? Are you having regular titration reviews?

FatGirlSwim · 19/03/2023 12:59

If it’s only the first day it could be an aberration or just his general mood, I’d be inclined to give it a few days and see.

Yes, regular reviews. We began on 10mg and have just been increased to 20mg.

I'm very reluctant to give 20mg tomorrow before school if this is the effect. We have our next review in 4 weeks.

Hi Titanically
Just wondered how you were getting on. My son 8yrs has been on Equasym XL 10mg a few weeks which has helped calm him down but done little for his focus and attention. So today up to 15mg and he's back to being explosive and very charged up again. Am really hoping it will settle as not easy to manage himlike this. ASC also which I know complicated things.
