To take my four year old out for a walk?

With or without the dog, at this time (21:50).

He's had an unsettled week and has been quite grouchy. He's over tired and grumpy tonight and has been fighting sleep for about three hours now, he's in my bed quite upset.

Walking tends to calm him and gets him sleepy.

It's so late though. I'm at a bit of a loss!

Is it totally crazy to take a 4 year old out for a walk at this time?

No and it's a lovely evening (where I am anyway). Plus, it's Friday and it's a nice way to spend time together.

If he's wrapped up warm I don't really see an issue. My daughter has ASD and sometimes jumper, coat and wellies over pyjamas to go for a walk is all that can help calm her down.

NuffSaidSam · 17/03/2023 21:54

It's not crazy if it works.

SuperSleepyBaby · 17/03/2023 21:54

totally fine - what are you worried about - is it what other people might think?

Divorcedalongtime · 17/03/2023 21:55

Of course not, my kids a d j often walked late when they were younger (teens now, less interested in walk with mum 🙄😉)

sunmonlight · 17/03/2023 21:55

Yes I guess what other people might think. I don't want to alarm anyone with a four year old out walking so late.

Most people aren’t judgmental - and if they are, let them judge away!

CatOnTheChair · 17/03/2023 22:00

Take him.
Staying at home isn't working, so switch it up.

SuperSleepyBaby · 17/03/2023 22:02

Also, my 4 year old has only just gone to bed now after watching a movie. No fighting sleep - she just falls asleep when she’s ready

Albertus · 17/03/2023 22:03

No I wouldn’t take four year old out for a walk that late.

MeinKraft · 17/03/2023 22:04

Yes as long as it's safe.

Marchforward · 17/03/2023 22:04

As long as they are appropriately dressed for the weather and with an adult their in nothing to be alarmed about.

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 17/03/2023 22:21

We often do this but we take torches and pretend we are going on a hedgehog hunt or similar!

Merryoldgoat · 17/03/2023 22:24

I was a terrible sleeper as child and my mum used to take me on night walks and I loved it.

My 3 year old is autistic and at times he Getz that way too. Fighting sleep over tired etc. I don't even worry about the time if it'll help him sleep what's the harm regardless of time as long as it's safe to do so.
