Would you be willing to pay a top up to the 30 hours funded childcare?

Using AIBU to use the votes system.

So if/when this 30 hours of funded childcare begins, would you be willing to pay a top up to ensure the setting still receives what they would ordinarily charge or not?

YABU - I expect it to be completely free and would not pay a top up

YANBU - I understand it is poorly funded and would pay a top up

Thank-you. Having a discussion with childcare providers and we'd like an idea about what the public thinks and expects.

My childminder charges the top up for the 'free' hours for 3-4 so don't think this will be any different. Most places I know of (childminders and nurseries) round here charge the same top ups too.

I think almost every provider currently charges some form of top up or additional charge as it is unsustainable not to.

fairgame84 · 15/03/2023 21:14

I'd be more than happy to pay if it means providers can stay open.

They already charge top up as it's just core hours that are free

I’d happily pay a top up, it’s still less than the full whack.

I would prefer the funding to have a monetary value rather than an arbitrary time. With perhaps an extra funding amount for London/SE.

With 15hrs free guaranteed at 3yo in a school preschool.

Just to clarify, I know many already charge. But this new system will affect a lot more parents many who've not claimed funding before and we are seeing a lot of surprise that the government doesn't just reimburse us at the rate we invoice them for.
