To think is a good idea? (Snack related..)

I have a really bad sweet tooth and was eating a bar of dairy milk a night, but I made cakes a month or so ago and cheated using a tub of Betty Crockers frosting. I've fallen into a habit now of whenever I crave something sweet I just go and have a teaspoon of that, a big teaspoon is bloody delicious but also sickly enough that I don't want more. I even bought another tub because surely a teaspoon of frosting is better than a whole bar of dairy milk, or a tub of ice cream, or a 5 pack of doughnuts.. you get the point..

Anyway my husband is acting like I'm a type 2 diabetic waiting to happen because of it but I think it's actually a really good idea for people that want to eat less shite but crave sugar

Anyway, AIBU?

It’s ultra-processed crap. Your funeral though

blubberball · 15/03/2023 20:33

I'm a chocoholic as well, and I find it really difficult not to eat too much sweet stuff. This sounds like something I would do. If you can stop at one tea spoon, that probably is less calories than a Dairy milk bar if you weigh it up.

watcherintherye · 15/03/2023 20:34

I would have thought a teaspoonful of ultra-processed crap is better than….more than a teaspoonful of ultra-processed crap, though. It’s what I do with biscuits - 2 instead of 4 with a cup of tea. Ideally I wouldn’t have any, but baby steps… I get where you’re coming from, op!

I have 4 biscuits but I tell myself that 4 rich teas are better than 2 choc digestives 🤣🤣

I'm also pregnant so sometimes I justify half for me and half for the baby. It's funny, I never lie except to myself

GoodChat · 15/03/2023 20:38

YANBU. Tell him to stop commenting on what you eat.

Haha brilliant! Actually I suppose that’s what I’m doing when I buy rich tea fingers - I somehow reckon 6 of those = 2 ordinary ones! Grin

I eat hot chocolate powder sometimes - one heaped teaspoon is super chocolatey and super sickly. As you say better than eating a big dairy milk!!

LucyLoopyLu · 15/03/2023 21:27

You're basically having a teaspoon of sugar instead of a whole bar of chocolate.
I don't see what the problem is, if you enjoy it and satisfies the craving. If you took sugar in your tea or coffee you could easily have 3 or 6 times that much in a day.
Yeah it would be better not to have the craving in the first place but nobody's perfect!

SootspriteSearcher · 15/03/2023 21:34

Sometimes I have a teaspoon of golden syrup when I have really bad sweet cravings! 🤣

WolfieWolfie · 15/03/2023 21:35

Dunno, I eat a pack of chocolate bourbons every night 🤦‍♀️

JamMakingWannaBe · 15/03/2023 21:44

Are you just eating a teaspoon a day eg replacing your Dairy Milk or "whenever you fancy something sweet"?

I have now worked out that for me, sugar is my crack cocaine. Alcohol or drugs I can take or leave, but sugar. Eating sugar just makes me want more. And more.

The first spoonful is the easiest to resist, so that's what I do. I eat my fill of leafy green veg, and fatty cuts of meat.

Sugar and starchy carbs, just no.

It took a few days of cold Turkey when every fibre of my body seemed to be screaming eat sugar, then the switch just turned off. Now I can take it or leave it and I leave it.

I suspect if I started eating sugar again I would never stop. Feel much better for coming off it.

YMMV

MisogynyNonConforming · 16/03/2023 00:14

Sounds reasonable to me OP. As you say, it is instead of a larger helping of sugar, not in addition to.

Amiable · 16/03/2023 00:34

I found having a sugar free lollipop a great alternative - I can easily down a whole bag of haribo in one go Confused - the lolly lasts a lot longer than eating individual sweets but satisfies the sweet craving

This is me. When l stay off it l am fine and l wonder why l ever even bothered eating sugary crap. Then something happens and l fall off the wagon and its all downhill from there. My trigger is tiredness but when l am off sugar my energy levels are better . My dream is to be off for life but it hasn't happened yet.

SheSaidHummingbird · 16/03/2023 03:17

What about doing the same but with a (sweet) yoghurt? Like a creamy muller dessert type? Marginally healthier.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 16/03/2023 06:19

Your mistake was in letting your DH find out what you are doing with the frosting. You need to hide the open one at the back of the cupboard and make sure nobody sees the spoons in the sink.

Not that I have ever done this myself. Nope. Never.

CrystalCoco · 16/03/2023 06:24

If you can stop at one teaspoon then you're amazing 🙌🙌

I'd be back and fore to the kitchen until I'd had at least 1/3 - 1/2 of the tub 😳

I do the same with chocolate sauce or lemon curd, it's one spoonful, probably the equivalent of one small chocolate & I can't see any problem with that!!
