Unwanted substitution

I am unreasonably annoyed that I ordered 15 cheese slices and got 10 of another brand. And 6 yogurts instead of 12! I could go on. If they had bought two packs I wouldve been ok with it. I'm not going to complain and I never do about things like this because I know how unreasonable I'm being and it doesnt make much of a difference but these small things really get to me

I send 75% of my substitutions back. As well as anything that doesn't have a long enough date and anything that I wouldn't have bought if I'd been in the shop myself (squashed bread for example).

Today I'll be sending back a 4 pint of milk (subbed from 2x 2 pints - not an unreasonable substitution, just won't work for me); and probably a short date deli item (I'll check the actual date on it when it arrives).

I really can't be bothered to check dates on arrival, so just claim a refund online for any short dated items. I must have done so on dozens of occasions, and it's not failed yet.

Weirdly, I once successfully claimed a refund on an item that had a seemingly unfeasibly long date, which I subsequently discovered was correct!

@Borborygmus Sainsbury's lists short date items on the same email as substitutions 👍🏻 Much easier! I do message them if there are any that they haven't flagged up.

I know Morrison's don't give you any options to opt out of subs, that's why I stopped using them, they've also now started taking an extra 5% deposit to cover if they want to send you something more expensive, cheeky feckers.
Yes you can always refuse them when they arrive but not everyone has extra food at home to cover until the money gets released back into your account.
ASDA overcharged me £50, they didn't sort it out and I had to go through the fraud department of my bank it was a bloody nightmare.
I only use Tesco now as they only charge you on the day of delivery so you don't have to keep checking your bank account to see if you've been refunded.
To get back to what you were actually talking about I only use Tesco now and I've never been ripped off by their subs touch wood.

The quantity thing does annoy me with subs. I have 3 teen boys and half the amount doesn't cut it

This really annoys me too - I order what I want, if I wanted less, I'd have ordered less!! I've always called up because how can picking issues be resolved if they don't get to hear of the problem? It's either IT giving incorrect substitutions or a picker not being careful enough - either way needs to be fixed.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 15/03/2023 07:49

Is it tesco? My colleague was saying because they don't give you the substitution for the original price anymore they have a new policy which is to match to value you ordered rather than quantity. It happened to her with roast dinner meat. 500g for a family of 6 adults.

Well it is annoying if you ordered something and they don't substitute it and you need it! I ordered organic eggs once and they didn't have any but didn't sub them either - I mean were there no eggs at all?!? Had to go out to buy some which defeats the whole purpose. But mostly the subs are fine and if not they just get refused. But do complain - you don't know if it falls in deaf ears but enough complaints and it will get a result in the bigger picture.

Glittertwins · 15/03/2023 14:19

I've not seen the policy any different on Tesco.

By accepting the substitutions you're not only getting something you didn't want, you are also telling their substitution algorithm that you are happy and it will learn from this and make similar substitutions for you in future
