Sorry, I couldn't find if there's a thread already on this. I do recommend this podcast, it's very interesting I think.

I am. Literally right know, in fact!

I think it's interesting. JK Rowling is coming across as sensible, measured and articulate. However, I do wonder if Megan Phelps-Roper makes people feel that it's coming from a more right/religious angle though.

blubberball · 14/03/2023 10:04

I do agree that she comes across as extremely articulate and intelligent.

I watched Megan Phelps-Roper in the Louis Theroux documentaries over the years, and I think she comes across very well as well. I'm glad that she escaped the cult she grew up in, and I intend to get round to listening to her audio book.

Yes, I've listened to it and found it really interesting. Think JKR comes across very well - thoughtful, calm, measured, informed, articulate and brave.

Wasn't sure about the framing of states in the US that protect women's sports being stated as being "anti trans" though.

Buzzinwithbez · 14/03/2023 12:36

I've added it to the queue on Spotify.

martha4clark · 14/03/2023 12:40

Yes it's very good. It is explaining the whole issue very clearly to me.

StellaKinsella · 14/03/2023 12:44

I can really recommend the podcast series Gender - A Wider Lens, too.

Their interviews can be so eye opening. Recently their interviews with Michael Biggs, Hannah Barnes and Victoria Smith were all really interesting.

Helleofabore · 14/03/2023 12:53

I have it down on my list to do, OP.

Helleofabore · 14/03/2023 12:55

Can I also recommend Stephen Nolan Investigates for anyone who has not listened to it before.

Listened to the first episode yesterday - fascinating.

blubberball · 14/03/2023 13:22

I'm glad that people are enjoying it. I find it a very complex issue to comprehend. I have a medical condition which causes a lot of brain fog, and I now struggle to understand many basic concepts.

I think that I stand with JK Rowling to defend women's rights, which have been hard fought for and the fight is ongoing.I always vote, because I know that as a woman, many women fought and died for my right to vote. I won't visit countries with dodgy rules for women.

Thanks so much for all these recommendations.

I have been following this and really enjoyed this week.

The first two were fascinating for all the background of what was happening in US with all the Harry Potter book burning. My dd had a friend who was not allowed to read Harry Potter on account of it being all about witchcraft and I have finally got insight into what it was all about.

doubleshotcappuccino · 14/03/2023 16:40

Yes listened to it - it's very good and goes through a lot of detail and context .. excellent

Blort · 14/03/2023 16:42

Yes keep waiting for each new episode with impatience!

Absolutely love listening to Rowling's calm measured yet impassioned words on literally anything.

LadyHarmby · 14/03/2023 16:43

I liked what I’ve heard so far although I think she spent far too long on all the witchcraft stuff. It’s too ridiculous to merit that much time and research IMO!
