Smoking cannabis whilst with kids

I want to begin this by saying when I was younger I drank and took drugs so before anyone accuses me of not understanding, I do.

I’ve noticed lots of recent videos online about mums who smoke cannabis. They say it makes them calmer, better parents etc. that’s fine if that’s how you function, but what happens if your child has an accident? Surely you wouldn’t be competent to drive? And It’s illegal to drive under the influence of any drug, so surely it’s a huge risk? I don’t drink these days and would certainly not drink if I was the sole cater of my DC and I wouldn’t allow both myself and my partner to drink at the same time, even if my DC were under someone else’s care, just in case. Surely if you’re a single parent or the sole carer with no one else in the building, smoking cannabis is just as risky as drinking enough to put you over the limit? It makes you slower, less quick to react.
I’ve noticed lots of mums (not dads for some reason) making videos about them being parents who smoke and I’ve seen lots of supportive comments. Does anyone have any experience of this? I couldn’t function on cannabis when I was a young woman, let alone an old, knackered one! Is it risky or am I just having a different experience? And before anyone accuses me of not understanding mental health I have ADHD which causes anxiety and depression so I do.

Trying not be be judgmental, although I may sound it, I am just confused at how this is low risk when a mother who posted she was drinking a glass of wine or 2 at 9 am would probably have social services called?

Are they smoking it at 9am?

Catapultaway · 13/03/2023 13:45

Why would social services get called for having a glass of wine at 9am?
You seem hung up on the ability to drive... Plenty of parent don't drive. I'd be more concerned on the health impacts on the child if it was done around them.

I’m more saying if you were online saying you got tipsy at 9am it would be raised as a concern.

I’m not ‘hung up’ on the need to drive, as I said in my OP it affects your ability to react. Driving was just part of it.

Yeah, those are the parents that need their kids removing from their care.

CalistoNoSolo · 13/03/2023 13:51

Well the cannabis smoking mothers are clearly idiots. I take it none of them work either?

I don’t know, I’ve just noticed a few on social media, seems to be a thing and I just wondered about it.

So those mothers (or fathers) would be happy for their child to end up being recruited for 'county lines' later in life, because drugs are seen as normal?

Least you could do is report the videos to the social media platform and ask they be taken down.

I brought up three kids on my own.. went to work at 5am to London got back at 6pm so no, we are not all unemployed I didn't smoke in front of them either or in the morning

Sux2buthen · 03/05/2023 17:34

I'm a lone parent and non driver, guess that's me screwed! I don't do any drugs but I'll have a few wines. Crikey my poor kids

So, to clarify, the people you are referring to are complicit in the exploitation and abuse of teens used to supply and move these drugs. Nice.
