To think there's a degree of overlap between abusive, over protective and narcissistic?

I'm thinking specifically in relation to parent behaviours to children and trying to make sense of my own dysfunctional upbringing !

Looking back my mum admitted she'd been 'overprotective' of me but some of her behaviour were blatantly abusive - hitting me repeatedly - and others were narcissistic- trying to give her friends the impression I was much better academically than I actually was, for example. Others fitted into more 'traditionallly' overprotective definitions I suppose - stopping me using roller skates, for example.

Is it just me or do you feel there can be an overlap between these 3?
