To have thought Air BnBs included a blow up bed? (lighthearted)

I've never stayed in an Air BnB. I've never taken Uber or used Amazon. I resisted the internet for the longest time - I even tried to resist getting an email for as long as possibly until I was told by 'those in authority' that it can create difficulties nowadays if you've got no email address.

People talk about staying in Air BnBs and j just picture this blow up bed like a lilo in the bedroom.

Sorry. I just wanted to cheer people up on this cold Saturday.

Yodel delivery people don't sing when they deliver your parcels either OP I'm afraid.

Caspianberg · 11/03/2023 05:30

Huh. Air b and b is usually a full apartment or villa even. Of various standards the same as how you get 1 star hotels or 5 star Hotels. So everything from basic rooms to full on luxury

Ah thanks hadn't realised that. I really thought it was just 1 room

@Kinneddar** - I honestly did think Air BnB's were one room in a house. And there must be an air bed involved somewhere otherwise why the name? Grin

Someone was on recently complaining that his Airbnb didn't provide breakfast. People piled on but actually it was a fair point. Not Air Bed and Breakfast then. They do at least provide air.

Caspianberg · 11/03/2023 05:39

The name presumably comes from ‘on air’ ie online. Online b and b was how it started out years ago. And has now just become a booking platform that can be used for private rentals or even big holiday cottage companies use.

PuttingDownRoots · 11/03/2023 05:40

AirBnB is actually rather a stupid name!

At first wasn't it just a spare room sort of thing... (like Spare Room?)

Ah - that's interesting- I hadn't really though about the bnb element

The origin of Airbnb was actually a couple of blokes adding blow up beds to rent out their apartment to make money

Ofnointerest · 11/03/2023 05:52

Years ago, husband worked in aviation and was onsite for a project a couple of hours away, so booked somewhere to stay on Airbnb.
He told MIL about it and for years she assumed Airbnb was for the exclusive use of pilots and affiliated types…

Everyone is free to do as they please, but people who take pride in resisting technology, really annoy me.

I work for a trade union and people ring up really pissed off that their colleagues have received their consultative ballots but they haven't.

We have no way to email them, or text a link, but they have to wait for their postie to bring it and these days, it may or may not arrive.

If you don't wish to use these methods of communication, fine, but don't piss and moan when you miss out.

My Dad has this issue. He never went online - at all. He got annoyed when he no longer received his works newsletter as they no longer did postal deliveries - all online
