I agree. It's flimsy and ugly.
Even Primark is better

AllWorkYoPlait · 10/03/2023 10:31

When did Peacocks get expensive? Haven't been in one for years but they're Matalan/Primark level, no?

Scramble1805 · 10/03/2023 10:31

Agree, I like the fit of their boys clothes on DS (bit of an awkward shape) but they go thin and fade so quickly!

£55 for a flimsy coat in Peacocks

It's generally crap but I must admit my favourite jeans are from there.

They don't last long but the styling is OK.

I was just about to ask that.
I have one of their tshirts that I bought 10 years ago for about a fiver and it's still going strong. Granted the cloth is thin, but that's what I wanted.

Changethenamey · 10/03/2023 10:36

Yes!! The prices have crept up and now in line with most high street shops but the quality is shite! Everything I’ve bought from there for me or the kids twists out of shape or splits at the seams. Obviously don’t shop there any more.

AllWorkYoPlait · 10/03/2023 10:37

Fucking hell. They're chancing their arm, aren't they?!

Autocadelite · 10/03/2023 10:38

Whoa blast from the past. I haven't seen a Peacocks for years!!

Back in 2008 I bought some clothes there and the fitting was really odd. The fabrics were awful (worse than Primark!). I remember loathing it but I was a student and couldn't afford anything better! I remember buying some really cheap beige cargo trousers that rustled when I walked 😂😂😂 cringe!

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/03/2023 10:38

Most chains are 🤷‍♀️

JoelyJoe · 10/03/2023 10:38

It's always been tat. But it was cheap tat, and was occasionally ok. I once got a really nice top in there for 3.99! The one near me has closed so I don't know about recent pricing.

IsItMeOrEveryoneElse · 10/03/2023 10:38

Yup.. I for one am not buying from them again!
Matalan and primark stuff is better quality

lovechickencrisps · 10/03/2023 10:39

Yes it's absolute rubbish!

I Did buy a scarf from there years ago which has lasted and lasted but I look at the clothes and think why bother when there's primark?

KimberleyClark · 10/03/2023 10:39

I have loads of their Beautiful Basics t shirts in different colours.

CrapBucket · 10/03/2023 10:41

I've always rated their knickers, cheap but well lasting and comfortable. Tbh its so long since I've needed to buy any I have no idea of the current-day quality though.

thecatsthecats · 10/03/2023 10:42

I like Peacocks, you just have to be picky.

Their "high end" ranges are never up to the price tag, but if you pick wisely, then some of the other stuff is very serviceable.

I go there because at the very least, their designers seem to understand that women have breasts, wear bras, and like colour and pockets.

It's nice to go into a shop knowing that not everything in it will turn out to be backless, skinny straps or strapless, have weird cutouts, be cropped to the nipple level, or way too short.

How can a scarf not last forever though Confused They can't wear out and they hardly ever need washing!

OP YANBU peacocks clothes are vile static-y overpriced shite. Worse than Primark!!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/03/2023 10:49

Most of the ones I used to see are long closed down now - the entire chain is visibly dying on its feet.

The only reason I regret it is that almost all the high street clothes shops near me have gone, one by one. We used to have a Topshop, a Dorothy Perkins, a New Look...and how the hell Peacocks outlasted all those is a mystery.

Needmorelego · 10/03/2023 10:52

I've never had any issues with Peacocks clothes. Always seems to last and wash well etc to me.
Matalan ladies clothes I used to find often shrunk or went funny shapes - but I haven't bought anything from there in a few years because my nearest branch closed so they might have changed.

KimberleyClark · 10/03/2023 10:54

The Peacocks near me had a closing down sale that seemed to go on for years…but it’s still open.

KimberleyClark · 10/03/2023 10:55

I got a nice black and white check work dress from there that lasted me ages.

IsItMeOrEveryoneElse · 10/03/2023 10:57

Maybe its hit and miss then, or the type of clothes you buy in there, but I wont risk it again

They used to sell the most fantastic strapless bra's. super cheap and didn't roll down even on my 38dd's. DH has a fantastic fleece lined hoodie from there, still looks like new even after 8 winters.

lazycats · 10/03/2023 11:00

How does this shop still exist? "A more expensive Primark" isn't a great sell.

Beebumble2 · 10/03/2023 11:01

We have one in the nearest town, you do need to look carefully as they sometimes do have little gems. DH has had some cheap 100% cotton holiday shirts and shorts. Their four pack cotton socks are very good, lasting longer than the M&S ones.
