All dd (5) wants to do is watch tv. It is literally ruling our lives. She never wants to do activities, leave the house, play with toys, anything. She just wants tv tv tv. Eating at the table is a nightmare, getting dressed is a nightmare, I hate it! But if I get rid of it, is there any chance that she will engage with anything I offer? I feel like the worst mum on the planet.

Just get rid of it. She will soon learn to do other things. Just don't be tempted to use your phone in front of her. You're the adult - your decision.

I've got 4 DCs. 2 were obsessed with screens and 2 weren't.

My advice is to pick an amount of time per day which you are happy with them in front of a screen (TV, i pad, whatever) and stick to it rigidly. Involve them as much as you can in the decision making about when to use this time up.

Half an hour over breakfast, half an hour at lunch and half an hour again before bed (something gentle and calming) perhaps? Or a bit more? Or less? Your choice.

It's a pain in the arse having to regulate it but it's better than having them just rot in front of the TV for ages. It's a good habit to get them into - turning off the screen!!

Good luck Smile

Watching with interest as i also have a screen addicted little 1. I am also personaly addicted to screens and recognise that I am the enabler when it comes to my childs addiction.
Setting boundaries and sticking to them ( very difficult) or going screen free until maybe you can both handle them a bit better, seem like the options on the table.
Not a bad parent by any means!
Most people are addicted to many things in life.
Its a very challenging situation
all the best on your journey!
