To ask the hairdresser to redo my hair for free?

I had a really bad haircut last week - think a Rachel at the front and Kajagoogoo at the back! Even my mum says it's a mullet.
I explained what I wanted but she cut it too short on the top and left the back really long when I had asked for some off the length. It was all straightened and made lovely with a blow-dry and it was only next day I could see what a mess it looked. My kids keep laughing at it and no-one would believe this is after a cut and not months before!
The problem is the hairdresser was really nice and told me all about her life and I wouldn't want to make trouble for her with the salon. I have made an appointment to go back and hoped she would realise it was to tidy it up for no charge but I think they're going to ask for another fifty quid! Should I just cut(!) my losses and go to another place or just have a ponytail with hair coming out of it until it grows or I get fed up and go to another salon? I don't want to embarrass her in her workplace but they are going to want to know if she doesn't charge for the hair I suppose?

So you've made a new appointment rather than asking for an appointment to fix a bad haircut?
You need to be upfront about why you are back so soon

Oblomov23 · 05/03/2023 18:10

No. Phone back and explain that you are asking her to re-adjust it.

BevMarsh · 05/03/2023 18:11

I want to say go back and explain it is not what you asked for and you want it sorting out - for free .
In reality I'd go to a different salon.

CocktailOnion2 · 05/03/2023 18:14

Sounds like she gave you a U cut? Apparently its the cut that all the bright young things are getting.
When you rebooked for next week did you explain it was because you are not happy with last weeks cut? If not then I'm sure they will be expecting you to pay.

BagelandEggs · 05/03/2023 18:15

I know it sounds like I'm being pathetic but she's a nice girl and presumably will lose a paid slot by having to sort my hair out for free - also I didn't want to tell anyone else in the salon so asked to speak to her directly on the phone but she was just confused! It sounds cowardly but I don't want to make trouble!

If you just make another appointment and don’t explain you aren’t happy then I’d think you’ll have to pay again. They don’t know you don’t like it - why wouldn’t they expect you to pay?

Aftjbtibg · 05/03/2023 18:17

Hairdressers should sort it out for free but to be honest if she did that bad a job I wouldn’t risk her making it worse

Another thing I'm afraid of!

You need to let the salon know - and ask for a different stylist to attempt to improve it - if first woman f'd it up; why is she likely to improve it?

And YABU to expect them to realise it's to correct the initil poor cut - they aren't mind readers.

Whyisitsososohard · 05/03/2023 18:31

You need to call and ask to speak to the salon owner or manager. I absolutely wouldn't want the same person to try again. I think it's quite common to get home and do it yourself and only then realise it's a bad cut. This happened to me once.

Just booking another appointment isn't what you need.

SpringSparrow · 05/03/2023 18:36

You need to ring them up and explain they you aren’t happy with it and ask them to sort it out for free. If you just go make an appointment they are going to expect you to pay again. I think you need to speak to the shop manager and ask them to sort it out. I remember once going to get my roots touched up and the young girl forgot to do a quarter of my head. I contacted them and they got me to come in and sorted it for free. To be honest they weren’t very apologetic and it was really annoying that I had to go back and sit around for another two hours . But they did sort it.

Thanks everyone!
