How worried - positive pregnancy test but not pregnant

Taken 2 Clear Blue tests and both came back negative last night. Looked at them this morning and there is a thin blue line that’s making them both look positive. I know it was over the time but I’m now really worried that something is wrong. (Been reading about ovarian cancer/ tumours of Pituitary glad that can cause this). It’s not an evap line as there is definitely colour. How worried do I need to be? (Realistically I know I’m not pregnant. Don’t know what made me test).

Hey OP, I’m TTC and have seen positive lines on old tests when emptying the bathroom bin. Clearblue ones have always shown with colour but have looked a bit thin or strange vs what I’d expect a true positive to look like. Do you have a photo?

BlueSeaWave · 05/03/2023 10:39

I guess the only answer is to do another pregnancy test today/tomorrow and see if that turns quicker. And the reasons why you felt you needed to take 2. And if there is no chance of being pregnancy absolutely, like living in a nunnery, or you’re on contraception etc

Not worried at all! All the clear blue tests I've taken that have been negative have developed a thin blue line. It's invalid if it's over the time specified! A positive clear blue that I've had is a thick blue line.

I've tried to add a photo of my evap vs my positive test but for some reason Mumsnet isn't letting me add it.

I've had it with every CB I've used (ttc well over a year now so I've taken plenty! I just know now to bin it straight away and not look back)

It’s here does this look like a not true result? I think I’ve gone into a bit of a panic

Here’s mine…

Yeah, that looks like the classic CB result after a longer period.

Tafaa · 05/03/2023 10:44

This is why the instructions tell you to disregard results after 10 minutes (or whatever time it says). The line can appear after the test is dried out, it's not a positive.

Coffeellama · 05/03/2023 10:44

Why did you take 2 tests if it’s not possible for you to be pregnant? Are you 100% sure? Use a different pink dye brand to check again if you like but the tests aren’t valid after the time so I doubt it’s anything to worry about.

LovelyLulnie · 05/03/2023 10:50

Because I’m anxious about pregnancy at the moment

Anxious in what way? Have you had unprotected sex?

DixonD · 05/03/2023 10:56

I don’t understand- if it’s not possible to be pregnant, why are you anxious that you are?!

Those CB are notorious for this. Only use pink dye as they are reliable.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 05/03/2023 10:58

You can't read the result after the time limit has passed because it's not accurate.

If you're anxious about it then pick up a pink dye test like First Response, do it using first morning urine and read the result at the right time, then throw it away and do not check it again several hours later.

Buddythecat1 · 05/03/2023 10:59

Classic thin line, a sign it's been left too long. Do not take as a positive result

Mumof1andacat · 05/03/2023 10:59

The result after 10 mins should be disregarded. There is a development time as indicated on the instructions, then there will be the result, but the test lines can change after that time but that result is not valid. Same with a covid lft test.

lookslikeabombhitit · 05/03/2023 11:02

I have a prolactinoma (pituitary tumour) and have never had a fake positive test with it (was TTC for years). That does look like the classic left the test too long line, I've had plenty of those!

Because I’m anxious about pregnancy at the moment

Is that because there is a tiny chance you could be pregnant? Have you had sex recently?

TiredandLate · 05/03/2023 11:58

Is it possible that you are pregnant- have you had sex in the last 9 months- or not?
