Question for people who watch BBC casualty ??!!!

Orangesoda345 · 04/03/2023 22:47

If someone described you as being like stevey nash on casualty in terms of how you are as a person, would that be a compliment or not? 🫢

I don’t watch it so I genuinely have no idea. I tried to watch some clips on YouTube but couldn’t find very much and can’t tell if she’s a good character to be compared to or not!

i couldn’t suss out from the person who said it if it was a compliment or criticism and I was embarrassed because other people agreed so I just sort of said oh ok thank you and tried to smile and act like it was a good thing but it’s been playing on my mind ever since!

(I promise I won’t be offended if it’s not a compliment to be similar to her haha, just after an honest opinion!)

thank you so much in advance 🙂

She's quite....cold and sharp.

But she's honest and caring and intelligent.

I'd definitely be her friend 😍

Lucinda7 · 04/03/2023 22:58

She lacks social graces and is abrasive. I don't mind people like that but she does annoy/upset some people (in the story).

purpleme12 · 04/03/2023 23:00

I wouldn't think they'd mean it as a compliment no

Orangesoda345 · 04/03/2023 23:29

Oh dear! I honestly couldn’t tell if it was intended as a compliment or not. My boss said it and then everyone overheard and started agreeing but they were laughing and seemed happy enough about it but I couldn’t tell if it was a good thing or not! I didn’t realise I was coming across abrasive 🫢 oops.

purpleme12 · 04/03/2023 23:31

From the sounds of it they weren't saying you were a bad. More comparing you to how she comes across maybe. Like PPs said, very abrupt and straight talking but to the extreme sometimes (but you might not be that bad of course!)

60smusic · 04/03/2023 23:47

I definitely would not take it as a compliment. While she's a good doctor and knowledgeable, her personality is blunt, straight to the point, no interest in her patients, no good bed side manner, stirs up trouble etc

Redglitter · 04/03/2023 23:49

I'd be quite insulted. She's a horrible character

2bazookas · 04/03/2023 23:52

She has no social skills whatever, in a job that needs a high degree of empathy and cooperation with colleagues . She is abrasive, patronising , and often makes hasty wrong judgements.

Orangesoda345 · 05/03/2023 00:05

Oh jeez, that’s definitely not how I want to be. my boss said it in a sort of friendly way but then everyone was like ‘omg yes you are!’ And they were all laughing but it seemed friendly enough but I had no idea who she was so was hoping someone nice!🫢

I don’t understand why they think I’m like her (im not saying they’re wrong or disbelieving them, just confused!). I recently had a routine meeting with my boss (they have catch ups every so often with all the staff, just to discuss what you’re doing right and wrong basically) and I was told I was one of their most competent and solid employees and they could count on me in a tricky situation and that other staff (mainly newbies) had said they always felt they could approach me and and I helped them. Although they did say I can be sharp at times and very straight to the point although they made a point of saying I’ve never caused any upset or harm just that I was too honest sometimes. It’s clearly something I need to work on but it’s hard when you don’t know how!

Definitely don’t want to be compared to her if that’s what she’s like

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 05/03/2023 00:08

They were probably exaggerating. I'm guessing you might be sharp and to the point like you said but probably not quite like Stevie!

dooneyousmugelf · 05/03/2023 00:09

Maybe you look like the actress?

I did sort of hope that they meant that but they were definitely talking about my personality, they were saying how similar we are as people and I’m basically a younger her with the way I am🫢

spiderlight · 05/03/2023 00:24

She's very blunt but very clever. Doesn't suffer fools, but she does actually have a really caring side on occasions. It's not a straightforward compliment or insult, really! Maybe you just have similar mannerisms.

Oh good, maybe it’s not all bad then!🫢

It was playing on my mind a bit so decided to ask my other group of work friends (who were off on the day everyone said I was like stevey) and asked them if I was honestly like her- 2 of them didn’t watch it but the others did and said I was exactly like her but in a good way😶 think I need to recheck how I’m coming across to other people!

OP posts:
EarringsandLipstick · 05/03/2023 16:38

OP, I've no idea who this character is but in the way this was said, and the context you describe, I would completely assume they are referring to positive similarities ie, sharp, direct, no-nonsense.

If they were linking to her negative aspects, they'd be assholes to say it & laugh & joke in public about it.

In short - take it as a compliment!

I love Stevie Nash. She cracks me up with how blunt she is. Just saying what she thinks.

One of the best characters in Casualty in my opinion.

We need more people (or characters) like her.

I absolutely love her as a character in the programme.

Whether I like her as a person is another matter.. 🤣

Pepsipepsi · 05/03/2023 18:51

Luckily the BBC has character profiles and back stories for Casualty! Don't ask me why haha.

You can Google Stevie Nash Casualty and I'll post the link separately because not sure if mumsnet will like it.

Honestly I knew as soon as I saw her character photo it'd be a straight talking kind. Stern non smiley face/here for serious business only trope. Remember how Dr House made a whole career off being grumpy but brilliant? Women on the other hand have to be kind and smiley and lovely at all costs. 🥰

I'm definitely a Stevie character type. Never been told off for it at work though - everyone's probably too scared of me!

Seriously though it may help you get along better at work to add more social fluff into your interactions. Asking about a person's day etc before jumping into work talk. It's tiring with the feely types but better than people thinking you're mean then hitching about you behind your back etc. "People will remember how you made them feel than what you said". Being a human is exhausting!!

I don't watch it, but the descriptions here sound like Catherine in Happy Valley.

Is she a bit like that? Professional and big hearted but a bit hard to read?
(i'm trying OP)

I'm like her too.

She just comes across very cold and blunt (to some), but very intelligent and I think those are positive traits although, I understand that a lot of people don't like these.

Mmm I don't think any of these words describe Stevie!
