To think there should be some guidelines on here re stalking of social media

How come Nicola Bulley threads quickly elicited criticism about the vulture like nature they took on but the Constance Marten threads are fair game? Posters openly admitting to stalking her social media and barely concealed glee that they’ve been proved ‘right’ about the poor baby?

I get wanting to talk about current events but it’s possible to do so tastefully and respectfully get some posters never manage it, do they?

Guidelines won't stop these ghouls sadly.

SouthCountryGirl · 28/02/2023 17:26

Enforced how?

TrombonesAreNotBones · 28/02/2023 17:30

These mawkish ghouls are not going to be stopped from doing their Miss Marpling by 'guidelines', I don't think.

Apartfromeverything · 28/02/2023 17:31

Deletions of posts alluding to or outright telling others how to find individuals on social media.

No, they should be kept as a lesson for all to check their privacy settings.

TrombonesAreNotBones · 28/02/2023 17:33

AS MN is post-moderated not pre-moderated I think that members need to carry on reporting posts they feel are beyond the line. What do you think?

No, they should be kept as a lesson for all to check their privacy settings.

That’ll teach the deceased, won’t it?

Personally, I find it more offensive that you’re drawing comparisons between a mother who appears to have taken her own life as a result of menopause and a mother who appears to have taken her child’s life out of selfishness.

IncompleteSenten · 28/02/2023 17:38

Report the threads.

Apartfromeverything · 28/02/2023 17:42

This is the problem, @GPFavo . You feel you know them. And (correct me if I am wrong) you do not.

The only comparison I am making is that posters are rifling through the social media pages of two absolute tragedies.

Discuss by all means but talking about their Facebook pages crosses a line to me. And people saying ‘report it then’ fair enough except there’s nothing on the guidelines about it and I think there should be, hence the thread.

I don’t think I know them at all. And, no, I haven’t looked at their social media either. What I do know is what has been confirmed by reputable news outlets. I stand by my comment.

Why do you have an issue with their Facebook being looked through but not with other things being shared? It seems a very arbitrary point to draw the line.

BatFaceOwl · 28/02/2023 17:54

@GPFavo you don't think it's a bit grubby to look through someone's Facebook account?

You're saying news outlets have confirmed that "the baby has sadly passed away due to the selfishness of her mother specifically"? Source?

The truth is you actually have no idea of anyone's personal circumstances, potential medical diagnoses, family history, or motivations.

No more “grubby” than pouring over MN threads about it…

Do you make a habit of intentionally cropping quotes to misrepresent what they say?

BadNomad · 28/02/2023 18:13

You can't really police people over accessing information that is openly and voluntarily on the internet.

The social media platforms are responsible for what they allow users to upload, and MN is responsible for what they allow people to post.

Should have made them private if they didn't want people doing this.

Needtopost · 28/02/2023 19:17

Take this down, pls.

Or the unblinkered support for CM and unwavering belief she's the victim in this, that's what I find 'grubby'.
Haven't seen any 'glee from people on any thread regarding this case, just upset, angry people due to all those who have been cheerleaders for the couple.

User473831 · 28/02/2023 22:48

No, because they’re dead. But others can learn a lesson from it.

Where are these threads?

If someone opens a social media account, unless you lock it down, what do you expect. 🙄

Suzi888 · 01/03/2023 06:51

“The truth is you actually have no idea of anyone's personal circumstances, potential medical diagnoses, family history, or motivations.” Poor excuses.

MichelleScarn · 01/03/2023 07:41

@Suzi888 there's no actual threads, scant mention on other threads re the missing couple and baby, with regards to the ?3 other children they have where news bodies have taken old photos from the fb account, and posters have mentioned that there's none of them beyond toddler age. (Thankfully faces blurred out) Of course those defending CM are repetitive in how unfair this is for poor her...

Okay, fine. You said "appears to" rather than "definitely did" but then you also said "I know what's been confirmed by reputable news outlets".

You're still speculating and making gross assumptions about a vulnerable woman and her baby without knowing anything of substance about them.

I stand by what I said.
