DD 3 not wanting to use toilet unless with me

DD is 3 and very good at home or when we are out. She tells me consistently she needs to go and has no accidents.

She's been at a new nursery for around 2 months and still struggles to tell anyone she needs to go. They take her several times a day, but she often doesn't go. Some days she goes. She doesn't have accidents, but obviously withholds.

How can I / we help her ?

Even at home now, she only wants to go with me and not with other adults ( like grandma ). She sometimes also just goes by herself.

Any advice appreciated !

Can she not just use the toilet herself at nursery without having to ask?

I can suggest that to them. So far they're just taking her regularly. But even if I did that at home, she wouldn't really do it. That's not how I potty trained her. She likes to go when she wants to go.

Our nursery doesn’t let them go by themselves (mixture of safeguarding and anticipating chaos, I think).

But I know of one little girl who has a picture to hold up when she needs it, which stops her being too shy to ask (if that’s the issue)

Does anyone else's child have this issue ?
