To be worried about my house insurance?

Not really whether I'm being unreasonable but whether I'm worrying over nothing. Sorry.

After 3 years of same home insurance package and annual cost for both building and contents - I've just noticed I ticked the box to say we have a burglar alarm. We have never had a burglar alarm

If we get robbed or lose things- will our claim be invalid?

If so, what do i do? I don't want a burglar alarm - I have two kids and a dog who might get up in the night etc.

I'm happy to pay more but can I call the insurance company and say I don't have an alarm and do I need to pay more or will I be in trouble? E..g are they gonna ask me questions about it all? Do I need to lie?

Sorry for such a dull question but I'm worrying about it and don't know what to do. I'm rubbish with this stuff.

You won’t be in trouble. Just call them and let them now that you’ve checked your policy documents, and have noticed an error where you have a security measure recorded incorrectly. They’ll work out what this means for your premiums this year.

I work for a leading UK insurer.

If you've not been robbed, now is the time yo tell them. I'd just ring them up and tell them the truth - just say you've just noticed that on the paperwork and it's incorrect, can they amend it please. They may want to charge you a bit more as your house will be 'less safe' but hopefully not.

Just phone up and tell them. Might put your premium up a touch but not much.

The sooner you tell them then the sooner it no longer matters should you need to make a claim.

No need to worry about it OP, really. Just call and tell them you want to amend that part of it and find out what cost implications there are going forward.

Thank you so much!l. I will call them tomorrow!
