To ask you to help me get rid of this spider

There’s a massive spider living in my car. I’m not great with spiders and yesterday on the motorway he walked across the dashboard and made me panic and I honestly could’ve crashed. I think he went down the air vent that blows onto the windscreen. This morning there were webs across the car so he’d been busy all night. I put the fast clear windscreen button on but he didn’t blow out of the vent. I hoovered the car (at arms length) but didn’t see him so he must still be in a vent. I’m too scared to drive the car and don’t know what do. If he crawled over my hand or something when I’m driving I’ll crash he’s massive. Please help I need to go out tomorrow night

Maybe put a bigger spider in your car to catch him?

Of course they could end up becoming lovers and making spider babies. Maybe just get a new car? Cycle?

Valhalla17 · 21/02/2023 22:27

Get some spider repellent spray from Robert dyas (or similar shop) tomorrow morning and spray generously in the car. Should do the trick.

doublechocolatedigestives · 21/02/2023 22:39

I was afraid of spiders (had hypnosis and now I'm not) and I had a few in my car.
I'd spray RAID in the air vents and in the wing mirrors and they would die. Wouldn't see any for a couple weeks then new ones would be back. So get some RAID, preferably the red can

So unhelpful I would actually die if they multiplied. I think the car can just rot on the drive and I’ll become much more environmentally friendly and walk everywhere

Thanks I’ll have a look although I guess I’ll have to get it from Amazon as I can't go anywhere at the moment 😂

There's no way that I would kill a spider. I look at it differently - its part of biodiversity and wildlife and wild birds eat spiders.

WombsofWimbledon · 21/02/2023 22:46

Go out at night and see if you can find it when it’s actively web making?

I can’t touch spiders but I’ve never really thought I was scared of them til this one sauntered out when I was driving at 70 yesterday and I freaked out. The raid sounds good until you mentioned the somehow resurrect themselves after a few weeks 😩

Handheld hoover.

GoldDuster · 21/02/2023 22:50

I think this requires a night manoeuvre to catch her, she will be out there now muttering about you busting her webs up, get out there with a torch!

I’m like that with insects I always just put them out of the window and don’t kill them but there’s too many nooks and crannies he can run into in a car so no way I can get him with the old glass and beer mat I normally would use

How big was it? This thread made me shudder 😩. I wouldn't be getting in the car either. I'd be setting it on fire 😂

Bellavida99 · 21/02/2023 22:53

I can’t go out there now in the dark and start flapping around and squealing if I see it the neighbours will think I’m crazy. It was about 3 inches across I reckon like the ones in your house in the autumn sometimes

I thought the huge spiders were dead now? Anyhow, I would’ve died. Huge spider phobia.

Get some Indorex and spray every inch of your car, it works a treat!!

doublechocolatedigestives · 21/02/2023 23:06

@Bellavida99 no they don't resurrect lol. I mean new ones get into the car. The RAID (and Indorex that a PP posted) are really good and kill them within seconds

Other PPs need to not tell OP to not kill it. A phobia of spiders can be extreme.
I did have a spider drop down in front of me when I was stationery in the car once. I lost all sense and jumped out of the car. I didn't check if a car was passing me or anything
I had to do something about it so I got a hypnotherapy session and I can handle spiders now

Oh my life! I would have messed myself.

CherLloydbyCherLloyd · 21/02/2023 23:10

Honestly you need to just leave this life behind and start a new one elsewhere. There is no other way.

doublechocolatedigestives · 21/02/2023 23:11

@Bepis haha I was close.

I remember letting out a massive scream, scrambling to get my seatbelt off and find the door handle all while slapping my hands about. I fell out of the door too!
Anyone who saw me must've pissed themselves laughing

This. Our annual ant infestation has started earlier this year than ever before. I’m leaving them alone - they are doing no harm.

Get on the dark web and buy yourself a new identity. Move to Antarctica - I don’t see them having many spiders there.

undercoveraessedai · 21/02/2023 23:20

I understand - I hate killing them but the alternative is risking crashing and killing myself and/or others in the process if the bloody thing reappears while I'm driving - it's not a logical or controllable reaction!

Red raid spray is the one, and it is distressing but better than crashing your car. I spray everywhere pre-emptively in the hope it will act as a repellent rather than having to kill them once they've moved in. Why they never learn my house and car are bad choices for homes I don't know!
