Toc cancel plans with a friend again?

A friend of mine is just finishing her pgce and money has been a little tight.

I offered to pay her to help me decorate the dc bedrooms and had arranged to do it this afternoon.

Now it's a really lovely day and I feel like taking the dc out to enjoy it.

I know she desperately needs the money, and we arranged this last weekend after I cancelled our original plan because DD was unwell.

So should I just do as I said, or postpone again?

As you're paying her, can't she decorate whilst you take the children out?

If not, it seems unfair to cancel her again.

Acinonyx · 09/02/2008 11:07

Bit YABU - she is depending on you and you are plannng to let her down. How would you feel about paying her to decorate the room while you take your dc out for at least part of the time?

I'd do as you said, unless you are going to pay her now and do it another day - people can be quite shady about money, so if she admits she's desperate she's probably living on toast and cupboard crumbs.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/02/2008 11:09

Thats what I thought Pelafina, I was thinking a trip to the coast and I'm sure she'd love to come.
I wouldn't feel right leaving her to decorate on her own, it's such a tedious job!

Thanks, but I'm probably better just calling her and seeing what she thinks instead of going over it on here. lol

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!

If we all did that sort of thing, MN would implode!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/02/2008 11:13

It's become a worrying habit, everytime I have to actually think about something I think, what would mumsnetters do...I'll just ask

Well I called her and we are doing it tomorrow, but DH just got back and told me MIL is in town so him and the DC are going out to meet her.
So now I have nothing to do.

Well call her back.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/02/2008 13:59

Just ring her. She is a friend. It is your Dh that has changed the plans. This way you will have tmw free to do something else.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/02/2008 14:09

I just did and she hasn't made any other plans so it's back on.

Sorry to trouble you with the pointless ups ad downs of my day

No trouble! Glad to have been of some help.

bozza · 09/02/2008 14:13

LOL at the fact that I have just wasted my time reading this thread from start to finish. And that I am now bumping it so other saddos can do the same.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/02/2008 14:18

I must learn that some things should just be worked out in my head and not automatically posted on mumsnet.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/02/2008 16:45

I thought I may aswell update you.
Her tube to here wasn't working so now she has called and cancelled.

Meaning I've had a bit of a 'none day'

and making this thread evermore pointless.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/02/2008 17:13

not to mention mumsnetting
