To not want to rub thighs with a stranger?

When on the bus or train I just can’t bear it when someone sits close enough to feel the meaty bulge of their hot thigh pressing into yours.
is it just me?
I kept shuffling away to make a gap but somehow my fellow passenger’s leg kept rolling its way back to mine!

AIBU to think that people should make more of an effort to keep their thighs to themselves?

“The meaty bulge of their hot thigh“…

Is it just me, or is it getting hot in here? 😂

Train seats aren’t big enough nowadays. I’m a size 12 and barely fit on our local train seat. I get a bad back if I don’t sit perfectly in the middle of the seat. I refuse the twist myself nowadays to avoid the next person. Invariably I end up rubbing legs with the random person sat next to me, which is gross, but better than visiting the physio 🤦🏼‍♀️

It’s the train company’s fault. I don’t think anyone other than a total weirdo would want to be in such close contact with others.

I don't mind it accidentally on a journey when someone otherwise shows consideration.
I hate it when people show no respect or consideration and spread out.

Blimey, was your bossom heaving and did you see his manhood throbbing Grin

CheeseSquared · 20/02/2023 21:25

I had this at the theatre last week. I'm a bit larger and was SO self conscious. I wasn't sure of the etiquette. Just leave the thighs touching? Or keep trying to pull away and keep knocking?!

Onnabugeisha · 20/02/2023 21:28

I’m just happy if a man isn’t grinding his groin against my bum tbh. Since the strikes the trains have been worse than sardine tins.

Diverging · 20/02/2023 21:32

meaty bulge of their hot thigh

You give off cannibal vibes tbh.

MissPoldark · 20/02/2023 21:32

Appreciate theatre seats are much more compact than public transport and it’s probably more difficult to avoid.

But most of the time people of average build seem to be able to avoid it so I don’t know why it was necessary today. Obviously the other person was totally non plussed by it but I can’t believe that is the norm!

Blimey, was your bossom heaving and did you see his manhood throbbing
thankfully not! 😆

Well done for not blaming men - usually on here it’s purely men who get the blame (when in my experience it’s very much 50/50)

flutterbyebaby · 20/02/2023 21:36

I'd accidentally on purpose stand on their foot

LolaSmiles · 20/02/2023 21:54

Deathbyfluffy
To be fair in my experience lack of awareness touch can be done by both sexes, but there's a certain type of manspreading that shows no regard for personal space, far too much touch, and no consideration for how the other person feels that is a male pattern behaviour.

But I didn't mention that because OP's thread was more general about levels of consideration (and on a recent thread about the male behaviour aspect it became hilarious when some posters were desperate to argue that blokes who man-spread have to because of their genitals and all the men that show consideration must be tiny in that region 😂).

Ivesaidenough · 20/02/2023 22:04

This happened to me today! An overweight woman sat next to me. No issue while facing straight ahead, she was totally in her own seat. However she then suddenly shifted to lean against the wall and in doing so pushed her leg under the armrest and against mine. So weird. I felt really uncomfortable.

If it can't be helped, it can't be helped. But a couple of times I've had people just spread their legs wide open while next to me. I responded by swinging my own legs open to push their leg away. Both times this made them readjust their legs to be more considerate.

Quite funny to have a little argument over personal space in silence and staring straight ahead.🤣

AffableApple · 20/02/2023 22:51

Stage 1) Politely suck it up and give them extra room, on the basis they might not take it all and leave you some thigh gap... Stage 2) Arrange an uncomfortable corner of your bag to be poking into their leg, by placing it accordingly on your lap... Stage 3) Push their leg back with yours forcefully... Stage 4) (This can be efficient - particularly as you appear just a bit unhinged.) In the summer I skip straight to this to avoid sweaty contact: Shove a metro betwixt your outer thigh and theirs.

XenoBitch · 20/02/2023 22:53

Seats on public transport are hardly generous. When my BMI was healthy, I still rubbed thighs with the person next to me. Blessed with child bearing hips.

ALongHardWinter · 20/02/2023 23:53

This annoys me,but what really irritates the shit out of me is when you get someone sitting next to you who keeps rummaging in their pocket. All I can feel is their poxy elbow keep jiggling about in my side.
