Stomach cramps that make me faint - anyone else have this (TMI warning)?

It happens every few months, sporadic enough that I can't identify any particular trigger or food that causes it. I will suddenly get stomach cramps and an urgent need for the loo, on the loo I will be dripping in sweat, my hearing goes weird and I faint (or nearly faint if I manage to drop my head low enough in time). Afterwards I'm fine, just drained. My appetite isn't affected and it's not related to my menstral cycle. It's happened since I was a teenager and I've always just ignored it, but it seems to be happening more frequently now

I've had a colonoscopy which was normal, all blood tests normal, stool culture was negative for everything.

Has anyone had this or has any ideas what it could be?

Yes, I get this. It’s an IBS attack, the dreadful pain is the bowels cramping. I then get awful painful diarrhoea in a few episodes. As soon as the diarrhoea is passed the pain subsides but I feel sore and bruised on the insides for a day or so.

Its like labour pains, hence the sweating and feeling faint. I don’t know what triggers it either.

I have IBS and get this. I also believe I have Vasovagal syncope, because I always faint when I vomit or have severe diarrhea.

Oooh my DP gets this! I’ll never forget the first time I heard him crash to the floor in the bathroom Grin it’s called vasovagal syncope, basically the nerve that triggers fainting can be stimulated when you go for a poo. It’s also why some people who are about to experience a cardiac event might feel like they need to poo!

About twice a year (for the last 30 years) I get a severe pain in my stomach, sweat pours of me and I faint. The whole episode last less than a minute.
Doctors have never found anything wrong it's bizarre. Luckily I dont drive as it just randomly happens.

Yes. I used to get this when I had a very large ovarian cyst that was pressing on my other organs.

True!

Also OP, are you straining? Hard stools? Usually your blood pressure drops and this can cause you to faint. Try not to worry.

I get this without the fainting. As people above said, it's IBS 😔

Bedusa · 20/02/2023 20:30

Yes I get this. I have had to call my husband to the bathroom so I could lean forward on him whilst I simultaneously pooed and tried not to faint and be sick. I usually almost faint and go silvery pale.
I watch my diet very closely for triggers.

cocksstrideintheevening · 20/02/2023 20:33

Yep same here - IBS D

Levelsandlevels · 20/02/2023 20:38

I get this also! Only roughly 2-3 times per year though and no other family members are ever affected by it. I’ve had to strip off all my clothes whilst on the loo due to feeling so hot and sweating loads. Also being sick in the bath at the same time. Does anyone get itchy palms too? That’s the weirdest part for me.
