To turn unpopular job down?

Worked in my department for 3 years and made many contacts. Been offered a new role in HR.

I would work in a small team of decision makers that review grievances. Unfortunately line managers/HR business partners may be biased so my team is supposed to conduct reviews then potentially implement unpopular decisions to prevent court action. This may include overturning decisions of line managers I’ve already met in the past so could ruin relationships.

my specific role can be carried out in other departments, it’s not exclusive to HR. Aibu to turn this job down just because of the potential fallout? The team is small and I’m not sure if it has the buy in of senior management or would be taken seriously etc.

Would you be able to have more job opportunities elsewhere in the future if you did the new job for, say, a year?

Does moving to a different company interest you?

It may be worth trying the job .

Yes, I think there could be more opportunities. The role is like for example being a software developer, the experience will be useful to secure other developer roles. The actual function I work in doesn’t really matter.

Moving companies does interest me. Unfortunately I work in the type of industry where you always bump into people you know
