Asking hairdresser to copy her colleagues' style?

Millana · 16/02/2023 23:30

I've gone to the same hairdresser a few times. She works in a salon with 3 other stylists. She's the "new girl" and she seems a bit excluded from conversations etc.

I want a new hair cut and I saw a picture of a cut done by one of the other stylists. I love it. I've tried to find a different picture but I can't.

Would it be rude / insulting / something else to ask her to copy one of her colleagues cuts? I always take in pictures but it seems a bit awkward when it's someone she works with?

YABU - stop over thinking. Just show her the god damn picture and try not to cry the next day when you remember that you're rubbish at styling anything other than a pony.

YANBU - just don't. You're setting her up to be compared to her colleague and not giving her the chance to do her own thing.

The cut won’t be that exclusive. I’d ask

I'd show her the photo and ask her honest opinion in relation to your hair type/colour/face shape.

My cousin is a hairdresser and is extremely popular as she says it like it is! She is brutally honest (in a funny kind of way!) and her clients genuinely appreciate it. For example - she'll say "Your skin is too pale for that hair colour and you'll look washed out, how about you try....?" or "As you have a rounder face shape this particular cut would look better on you if...."

Also - this way you are deflecting her attention directly from the photo and more to you!

Why don't you ask her colleague to do your hair, or have I misunderstood?

That would be breaking the unspoken code of the hair salon!

Generally, you do not have another stylist do your hair unless they instigate it (for whatever reason).

I disagree with this. It's up to me who cuts my hair, if they have a problem wit it, tough.

Don't be daft.

OP is a customer. It's her money. She can choose to have her hair cut by whoever the hell she wants.

I like how she does my colour. It would also feel really awkward in such a small salon to ask for someone else. 🤣

So you’d rather risk her getting your cut wrong than feeling “awkward”?

If you’re that worried, find out when she’s off and book the other stylist then.
