To ask where I can get a UK sticker in Calais?

Calling out to the wise hive mind of MN to ask if anyone knows where I can pick up a UK car sticker in Calais near the Eurotunnel arrival point? We have obviously managed to get as far as the actual train before remembering we needed one and bypassing all last minute options in the UK 🙈

Can you try and find someone who’s about to leave for the UK?

ohwhataforgetfulidiot · 14/02/2023 21:50

I wouldn't have thought so unless there's anyone hanging around at our hotel tonight as we come off the shuttle straight onto the road

Try one of the supermarkets near the port

ohwhataforgetfulidiot · 14/02/2023 21:52

That's going to be our first stop I think. Just trying to avoid too much driving around as we have two very little people in the car who are getting increasingly fed up now

There’s a massive shop at the Eurotunnel - they’ll have one in there!

Smidge001 · 14/02/2023 22:05

When we forgot, we just got a piece of paper and drew thick letters on it. I'm thinking we wrote GB rather than UK actually, but either way, we just made our own sign and shoved it in the window.

BakedTattie · 14/02/2023 22:18

Any shop near the port should have them?

LIZS · 14/02/2023 22:28

The cafe/shop at the terminal used to sell the paraphernalia, or the service station just before Folkestone. Or a Halfords, Wilko, supermarket superstore.

This is what we were thinking about doing, I can't see the difference?

Thank you all. Unfortunately we didn't even think about it until we were already on the train so past all the UK shops and port. On the French side you leave the tunnel straight onto the road not into the shops etc. We only arrived at 11pm French time so pretty much everything is shut, will hope for the best in the morning or make our own 🤞

If you are still in Calais head to Cite Europe or a hypermarket.

stringbean · 15/02/2023 08:01

Saw plenty of UK cars driving in France last summer without them - we kept noticing them on the motorway. You might be able to get one in the shop at one of the larger services on the motorway - failing that, can Amazon deliver one to your destination so you at least have one for the return journey?

toomuchlaundry · 15/02/2023 08:05

Have you got all the other things you need whilst driving in France?

Franklin2000 · 15/02/2023 08:06

Any aire with a shop once you’re on the motorway will have them.

baffledcoconut · 15/02/2023 08:31

Does your car have U.K. on the number plate? If so that’s fine. Tbh most people don’t bother now. Ours came off (probably in the ferry queue) and we didn’t replace it. It was fine.

KnickerlessParsons · 15/02/2023 08:36

Doesn't it say U.K. on your number plate?

AuditAngel · 15/02/2023 08:39

We got ours in a petrol station just after the Eurotúnel. We planned to get it at Eurotúnel, but they offered us an earlier train.

elevenplusdilemma · 15/02/2023 08:48

I'm sure if your number plate has 'UK' on it then you don't need a separate sticker in France. You will need one if your number plate says 'GB'.

ohwhataforgetfulidiot · 15/02/2023 22:38

Thank you all. We don't have the UK/GB marking on our numberplate, no idea why these aren't just standard. We've got everything else we need as that just lives in the car anyway but our old GB sticker which was outdated anyway was past it's reusable life on our last trip so we binned it and it's been a while since we travelled.

We've ended up making a sign for our next leg and will have a look now we're at our destination, we're not driving for a while now so will look into Amazon deliveries as well.

Driven in France for decades. Never had one. No one seems to care.
