To think there is an mn algorithm which ensures that it isn’t possible to get a 100% yabu or yanbu thread?

I have been on mn for years, long before AIBU even became a thing.

And I have come to the conclusion that it isn’t actually possible to get a 100% yabu or yanbu thread. 99% I have seen, but never 100%, and I have seen AIBu’s covering some truly awful topics such as abuse etc.

I could write a thread asking if I was unreasonable to drown kittens and eat them for dinner and I guarantee someone would vote yanbu. Equally I’ve seen threads from people wanting to leave abusive relationships, talking about abusive parents, etc, and there is always at least one poster who votes yabu.

So I have concluded that actually, it is an algorithm which means that 100% one way or the other actually isn’t possible.e.

It’s the “humans are muppets” fact.

Most people - me included - are crap at pressing the correct button. (Ever pressed “yes” when Excel asked you if you really want to close without saving the work you have spent all morning on?)

If people press the correct button 90% of the time then by the time you have 10 people the chances that all of them have pressed the correct button is about 1 in 3…..

People interpret things differently. Whilst they might agree with something, there could be other things in the text they don’t agree with. There is also random error of accidentally pressing the button. Has nothing to do with algorithms though (something that would be programmed in), are you sure that’s what you mean?
