The guardian (I know!) is reporting that Camilla's crown for the coronation will be "recycled" in the interests of "sustainability".

To be clear, she is just wearing one of the many, other, crowns the Royal family own. Reworked just for her. To the huge unnecessary ceremony which will waste untold public funds while people are going hungry, in Britain, in 2023.

Who thought this would win people over? The carbon emissions and waste from the royals, as with all of the super rich, must absolutely dwarf those of the average brit. Let alone the average global citizen. Sustainability my fuckin arse.

Had a lovely image for a moment of her wearing a paper mache crown.
It's hardly recycling and it would be more of a gesture to sell them all off to benefit the public in some way.
There should be a public vote on what to do with the huge wealth and land they've "acquired"

Queen Mary's crown is much nicer that the Queen mothers crown anyway!

Barbie222 · 16/02/2023 10:06

Aren't they all recycled? I think they all get tweaked / remade for new wearers?

MaoamAddict · 16/02/2023 10:26

Most of the Crown Jewels have been gifted to the royal family, there's never a time they would be considered public property Hmm honestly the republicans really need to understand how the crown/royal family's property and finances actually work!

Fair enough. But most people don't come from a family that has been gifted priceless artifacts and therefore the privilege the Royals enjoy are still out of proportion. Like many posters have said those jewels could be split up and sold to benefit the general public.

Great.

They can start paying for their own security and the upkeep of themselves and their property then, if it's all their personal wealth, instead of leeching off the rest of us.
