To ask if any mortgage experts are on here

Looking to move 3 hrs away to free up some capital.

However we have a hybrid job but only have to go into the office once a month. This is a preset day each month and we would take the hit on the travel for that day.

Question is will the mortgage lenders accept that or do they ask for proof that your job is happy? Not too sure how it works!

I expect if you say there at no problems with managing the job then that will be plenty. You need to declare travel costs, but if it’s a set day you can say you will book 12 weeks in advance (presuming you use public transport) so once a month it shouldn’t do much to your affordability.

Do you mean the mortgage company checking that your employer are comfortable with you moving away from the location of the office?

I've never heard that being asked, seems odd to worry about in a hybrid working world - they just need proof of earnings surely

Ligglepiggle · 13/02/2023 20:24

They won’t even ask. At worst you’ll be asked what your commuting costs are.

housemaus · 13/02/2023 20:59

You won't be asked, other than to have to account for the cost of commuting in your affordability checks!

Mortgage company will not be remotely bothered

Perfect. Thank you all

I am moving 2.5 hours away from where I work. Mortgage provider only cared how much I earn, not how often I go to my office or what it costs to get there.
