AIBU to ban TV/YouTube shows for my child

Every time I mention that I don't want these programmes on the TV for my child I always get told I am being an overprotective first time mum (my DD is 1 and watches TV when I'm making dinner mostly)

The TV programmes I have banned are:

  • Cocomelon
  • Peppa Pig
  • Bing
  • Blippi

I'm sure my list will grow..

We stick to watching Ms Rachel and Bluey mostly.

YANBU to ban Peppa Pig.

She's a spoilt, selfish, rude little twat.

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/02/2023 13:26

1 year olds don’t need tv at all. If you want her to watch it then it’s up to you what content she’s accessing. Who cares what anyone else thinks? Cocomelon is well known for being particularly shit and addictive.

I can't stand the fat shaming on there and George's screaming crying when he doesn't get his own way

I feel like TV within reason is fine to give yourself a break :)

The fat shaming is disgusting. There is only one thing that pig is useful for and that's a sandwich.

Also, PP is right; 1 year olds don't 'need' TV. But you need a break every now and then. You need 30 mins to make dinner. If TV makes that easier, then crack the hell on.

HelloIlikeRandomShit · 23/06/2023 16:40

The thing that Bluey makes different from other (children's) cartoons is that it doesn't adapt the 'Everything is perfect!' and 'There are barely any problems in this wonderful world' type of cartoon like others
Also on another note one time my little sister (3) was watching a Peppa Pig episode and the password to the treehouse was:'DaDdY's BiG tUmMy'
And if you want to know what hell feels like, watch Cocomelon

RonObvious · 23/06/2023 16:42

Blippi was the only thing that convinced my children to brush their teeth! Peppa pig can fuck right off though. And don't get me started on Caillou...

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 23/06/2023 16:48

We watch Bluey, Hey Duggee and Puffin Rock.

Peppa should be a sandwich by now and Bing should be put in a stew.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 23/06/2023 16:49

I saw one episode of Hello Kitty. At one point they were rolling down a flower covered hill in half coconut shells on wheels.

I didn't have to ban it as none of us wanted to watch that thing again, it was like being on a hallucinogen.

Watch out for books too. 'The Tale of Mr Todd' is basically an episode of Criminal Minds.

TakeMe2Insanity · 23/06/2023 16:51

Caillou - omg that horrible voice!!

Wait until they’re older and find the programs made by eager parents exploiting their kids! The worst programming.

youcandanceifyouwanna · 23/06/2023 16:55

YANBU. It's up to you (and the other parent) to decide what your 1 year old watches.

roarrfeckingroar · 23/06/2023 16:56

Fat shaming? Fat shaming a cartoon of a pig?

Jesus wept.

1 year olds shouldn't be watching tv regularly.

Lemonclub88 · 23/06/2023 16:58

Definitely not being unreasonable. Mine graduated to awful minecraft and roblox videos. They are swiftly banned via stealth in that I go on the settings and block the channels. No need to make a fuss and say "its banned".
You are in control of the DC viewing, if you don't like Peppa just erase it from yt kids.
I do think tv and youtube have their place so I'd not ban everything, its just I don't think grown men screaming at roblox in a morning is a good thing to start the day. Its lovely to keep the nice calm programmes.

roarrfeckingroar · 23/06/2023 16:59

Except Bluey because it's gorgeous

Noorandapples · 23/06/2023 17:00

I don't think a one year old has the cognitive abilities to pick up fat shaming from cartoons. I think you're being a little extra.
