Concert tickets - have I been scammed?

Need some guidance here - I bought tickets for Avril Lavigne 2 years ago on viagogo and the date of her event changed due to covid I have asked for refund a year ago as date changed but Viagogo tell me they can not do this as they are simply a broker - they can apparently resell them but only once I actually receive the tickets. I don’t get it - when the date changed it says you can get a refund but the tickets have never arrived. So Viagogo are totally rude and unhelpful, the seller says they have been transferred to Ticketmaster - Ticketmaster doesn’t have them? Almost £500 spent and I am at a loss. Finally dawning on me maybe this whole thing is a scam ?? What do I do - all ideas welcome

Did you buy them on a credit card?

Roxy75 · 10/02/2023 12:44

This sounds about right unfortunately. I booked tickets for a concert with my daughter that has been postponed until goodness knows when and I can't get a refund until another date is confirmed. No sign of that date but could do with the money back as nor cheap. Very frustrating isn't it

GoodnightJude1 · 10/02/2023 12:49

Viagogo are a nightmare. I’d never buy from them again. I don’t have any words of wisdom but good luck and hope you get it sorted!

TheLizardQueen · 10/02/2023 13:11

I actually have used Viagogo for tickets and always received them with no problems.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 10/02/2023 13:15

Viagogo are horrendous. Bought with them once, never again. Avoid !

needanewnamechange · 10/02/2023 13:19

They are like a secondary market place aren’t they so yes they are correct . Wait until you get the tickets and resell .
if you want full refund always buy from ticketmaster as these 3rd party sellers are different .

kitsuneghost · 10/02/2023 13:20

YABU for using Viagogo
These resale sites are a blight on all gig goers.
Tickets are sold out by 9.01am and appear on viagogo (and other such sites) 10min later at hugely inflated prices.

AllOfThemWitches · 10/02/2023 13:21

Viagogo are legit so probably not a scam.

Seasonofthewitch83 · 10/02/2023 13:36

Viagogo are nothing but touts and many promoters actually have T and C that the ticket is invalid to be resold on their website.

DottieUncBab · 10/02/2023 13:44

A family member had this issue when the date changed for a concert in Ireland and he was just told to resell the tickets himself! He ended up getting a full refund in the end but had to make a massive deal of it and constantly ring the ticket provider.

Viagogo have so many tickets available for a band I really want to see. I am checking ticketmaster resale and twickets daily but absolutely zilch. no way am paying them more than twice the real cost of the ticket. Plus I would be too scared to buy off them as am sure some venues won't allow their tickets. How they are allowed to continue to operate is beyond me.

Grendalsmum · 10/02/2023 18:35

You won't get any joy out of Viagogo, as someone else has pointed out - they don't actually have any tickets to sell, they just hook you up with someone else who has. A lot of places want card id to match the ticket you go in with so you can't use re-sold tickets anyway.

I got scammed on some Slayer tickets l bought from them as l was in a rush and didn't realise the were a 3rd party site. They wouldn't refund me but l disputed the transaction with my card provider ( it's really simple to do and works for credit and debit cards ) you just have to show it's a fraudulent transaction, so send a screen shot of the bit in the venue's T & Cs where they say they don't accept re-sold tickets and Bob's your uncle. Then get some proper ones from Ticketmaster or See or someone.

Good luck!

SquashPenguin · 10/02/2023 18:39

Viagogo are a total con. They don’t have the tickets to sell, they’re doing it for someone else. Some bands are now refusing admission for any tickets bought from Viagogo.

Floralnomad · 10/02/2023 18:43

How did you pay as a chargeback may be the best option . FWIW I never buy off resell sites , if I can’t get them from the original seller I don’t go - not worth the hassle .

Nimbostratus100 · 10/02/2023 18:45

I have used them once, and it worked out, as it happens, but more by luck than judegemnt. I wouldnt use them again

Betque · 10/02/2023 19:17

I’m not sure if you’ll be able to do a chargeback if your purchase was two years ago though it’s definitely worth checking. You could also try one of the money advice/consumer rights columns in the newspapers, they might be able to assist. Good luck!

Zandra123 · 10/02/2023 19:29

Definitely avoid them, my daughter bought over priced ticket to enter the venue, get code on ticket scanned to be told this has already been used!
