To think I could recoup so money out of this costly mistake I have made

I made a bad mistake and it has cost me significant amount of money! Granted I am going to look like a massive fool but looking for advice.

I had some posters that needed framing. I measured them alright. I placed the order one night when I was very tired. And I must have made an error in writing the number. The frames got delivered today and they are 6cms bigger. Cant fit the artwork.

These were custom made and as per the seller's website they dont take returns. Obviously its a mistake I have made. So returning them is out of question.

Is there any creative way to save them or sell them somewhere? Could I recover any money back.

Stupid question, but can't you just mount the posters on some coloured paper?

80sballetgirl · 04/02/2023 20:41

Could you ask the seller to adjust the frames (at your cost) to fit? Granted it will cost you a bit more but at least all would not be lost.

NoSquirrels · 04/02/2023 20:42

The artwork is bigger than the frame? Or the frame is bigger than the artwork?

Grenoside · 04/02/2023 20:43

My local framing shop would cut mounts to fit the gap.

Stompythedinosaur · 04/02/2023 20:44

Just order a mount to fill the gap.

an17 · 04/02/2023 20:44

Well I had them mounted so cant add more mount. And its only the length that is wrong so would be uneven mounting.

@80sballetgirl Thats a fabulous suggestion. Thank you! I am thinking I could take it to a local shop and see if they could adjust it.

  • A framer can adjust them. Many framers actually work small jobs for free because they’re retired from other jobs and framing is just a hobby (FIL does)
  • If they’re too big, just use them and have a gap?
  • Are you sure you made the mistake and not the person doing the framing? (i.e. can you see on an invoice or confirmation that you wrote the wrong number or are you just assuming you did?)
  • Sell them on Facebook marketplace, eBay, etc

Agree get a mount. Even if it's only bigger in one direction you get an upper/lower strip or a left/right side strip of a complimentary colour

I see . Didnt occur to me about being creative on mount. I knew this group can get me out of this soup. Thank you!!
I will try some ideas now. Pheew. Feel so much better.
