Has anyone had a near death experience?

I read a lot of books about this. It's something I'm interested in. Stories about People who have died for a short time and who come back. Anita Moorjani's book is a notable book about her NDE. It is called dying to be me. She died for a short time in hospital and then came back. I also read people's experiences on the website nderf.com. it is a list of people's experiences. It is very interesting.

I have had a near death experience. When I was in my early twenties, I was very sick. I had a recurrent chest infection that wouldn't heal. I used to get very bad chest infections that age where I would struggle to breathe. This chest infection was particularly bad. I remember I couldn't breathe. I was gasping for breath. I was in bed. All of a sudden I passed out.

Straight away, I was in a different place. I was going up a white escalator. Everything was white around me. To my right I saw a man with angel wings looking at me. I had the thought of "oh my god I'm dead". I had the realisation that I was dead. My next thought was "I can't leave my mother. I can't bear my mother finding my body like this. ". My mother was the only other person in the house. I said " I have to go back". And instantly I went back down to my body.

Has anyone on here had a near death experience?

If you were ill enough to be dying in bed from a chest infection I’m sure you might have needed a bit more treatment to come back from the brink than that?!

I nearly drowned as a child

I tried (and temporarily succeeded) to commit suicide. I was dead for about 2 minutes before they re-started my heart. It was an overdose, so I remember hazing out, and then hazing back in when I was resuscitated.

Everything was black. When I passed out, it was black, when I started waking up, it was black. No pop culture angel wings and elevators. Just plain blackness.

OP, you just fainted.

I also had another experience after my father died. After he died, I had a dream about him - in the dream, I saw what he saw and what happened to him after he died.

I saw it through his viewpoint. After he died, he met some people that were helping him. I saw him being confused and asking these people, "but what about Ann and Jack" (the names of me and my brother). He was asking about us, as he had left us behind. The people said to him "they'll be fine".

That's all I saw.

Interesting but I don't believe it was an actual near death experience op... unless the afterlife has modernised and installed escalators.

It wasn't exactly like an escalator. But it is what I would compare it to.

By definition nobody who has had such an experience was dead. Just their heart stopped beating. Brain was still going but hadn’t fully run out of oxygen and gone. Loopy visions probably from the lack of oxygen more than anything

Mooshamoo · 04/02/2023 12:00

Has anyone else had any kind of experience? I see so many accounts of near death experiences online. I would love to hear if any mumsnetters had any

OP you'd really like the Near Death podcast.
Most people on here will just dismiss you.

I don't know if this is near enough.

I choked on a piece of lamb and couldn't breathe. My husband slapped me on the back a few times but it didn't work and only when he did the heindlick manoeuvre did I get any ability to breathe again through at first what felt like a small "hole"

I certainly saw my life disappearing before my eyes but I was still in the present and "knew" I was dying but didn't see death.itself, so to speak.

I understand I'd have blanked out next and sometimes the body relaxing shifts the blockage (but sometimes it doesnt) - none of that I knew nor was it on my mind. My whole thought process was I'm.dying and this is what dying is like, can't speak and had no ability to breathe to save myself.

I had an asthma attack as a kid. I was on a bus with lots of old/sick/injured people. Then I woke up in hospital. I think it was a dream. We were waiting for the ambulance to take me to hospital but I'd never been in an ambulance so I guess my brain was imagining what it would be like.

I was on the motorway one afternoon. It was pretty busy in all lanes but everything moving at 70mph. I heard a crunching sound as something hit me and then my car started spinning . It was like I was in a vacuum - everything went white and all I could hear was my own screaming. And then I crashed into the crash barrier which stopped the car. I was convinced I was moving to another life for those few seconds ...
I ended up on the inside lane facing the oncoming traffic and a couple pulled onto the hard shoulder and came and took me-still screaming out of my wrecked car into theirs. I'm sure they were angels 😇 I still don't understand how no other cars were hit and I remained physically safe

/And yes OP, both times you were just dreaming.
