My toddler has had a cough and runny nose for over a week. I’ve caught it and now not stopped coughing for 5-6 days. Coughing fits that go on until I am literally choking. No other symptoms and I know I shouldn’t complain.

However this cough just won’t go. I am coughing every minute and I can’t sleep or rest to get better. Anyone else? Any advice?? Cough medicine not seeming to do a thing

Everyone I know has had it... then their kids.... then back to them again. Keep going with the cough mixture and if that doesn't help then GP.

It’s so annoying…. I just literally cannot stop constantly coughing. Now there is nothing to even cough up. My throat is just irritated and I cough constantly. My son is the same.

i hadn’t thought about going to the GP as don’t think antibiotics will help? What else can I do? Any herbal remedies worked for anyone?? I’ve tried lemon and honey but not helped

Phocodine linctus, from pharmacy counter, is a cough suppressant.

Dear god yes, when will it stop? Cough sweets are good, potters cough pastilles or boots catarrh pastilles. I'm basically living off them and hoping I don't get diabetes. I stop coughing while sucking them (bliss) but start again about a minute after.

Any boiled sweets are good. And a teaspoon of honey. You cant OD and it's been proven to be as effective as cough medicine

My gp told me
Years ago when my dc were young to try portion as it stops the hairs in the throat from reacting and bristling which is what cause the tickle and cough.

Can't remember the exact science or biology behind it but it bloody works!

I've had an on and off cough due to a nasty virus at Xmas and the only thing that really worked was jakemans sweets and then anti histamine before bed.

Thanks all for the useful advice!

I am just getting over this now after a couple of weeks of chronic coughing. So bad my ribs felt bruised with the exertion of coughing and literally could not sleep. Someone on mn suggested co-codamol as it’s a cough suppressant and mildly sedating. I took one just before bed and it worked a treat, first good sleep in over a week. I mean it’s not a long term solution but it certainly helped me get over the worst of it…
